The One Piece anime has been around since 1999, and after reaching its 1000th episode, the long-running series has never been better. After almost 25 years, the original manga is reaching its final stretch, which in turn, has the anime nearing the same conclusion. As such, several moments are being celebrated alongside its 1000-episode milestone, like its upcoming live-action series on Netflix and Luffy’s new internet-breaking Gear 5 transformation. Now, after several licensing issues causing the dub to falter in its pace, is only a little over a year behind the initial airing of Episode 1000 in Japan. To celebrate the achievement, voice actors Colleen Clinkenbeard (the English voice of Luffy), Luci Christian (the English voice of Nami), Sonny Strait (the English voice of Usopp), and Eric Vale (the English voice of Sanji) spoke with TV Insider about its new production pace, what Episode 1000 means to them, and the dub’s upcoming Gear 5 moment.

"One Piece" is a sprawling franchise of nearly 25 years, kicking off with Eiichiro Oda's Weekly Shōnen Jump manga in July 1997 before getting a rollicking anime adaptation from Toei Animation. The manga series is known for breaking the World Guinness Record for most printed comic series by one author. "One Piece" follows the Straw Hat gang, lead by Monkey D. Luffy (Colleen Clinkenbeard), whose consumption of a Devil Fruit granted him awesome stretchy powers. Luffy is on a long quest to find the legendary One Piece treasure and claim the King of the Pirates throne.
Now "One Piece" is sailing toward its final arc just when you thought the voyage could go on forever in the endless sea. Commemorating the 1000th anime episode and sending signals of the end is another one of its theatrically released features, "One Piece Film: Red."

"He said if I wanted back in to come see you..." Neon has released the first official trailer for an indie drama titled Little Woods, the feature directorial debut of up-and-coming filmmaker Nia DaCosta. This film originally premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival last year, where it won the Nora Ephron Award. Described as an "emotionally-charged small-town modern Western about two women in rural America," Little Woods stars Tessa Thompson and Lily James as sisters struggling to survive in their small town. "Their sister bond, beautifully exemplified by the authentic and lived-in relationship, is what keeps them connected but can also tie them down." The indie cast also includes Luke Kirby, James Badge Dale, Lance Reddick, Elizabeth Maxwell, and Luci Christian. The two lead performances in this look enthralling and fierce. “A sound soul dwells within a sound mind, and a sound body…”
Or so Laura Bailey, the voice of Maka, tells us at the beginning of each episode of Soul Eater. While she doesn’t give us any details about the percentages of recommended daily allowances, we can tell you that Soul Eater, the latest hit series from Funimation, is 100% awesome.
If you’ve been to an anime convention in the last year or so, chances are you’ve already witnessed the phenomenon that is Soul Eater. Starting its tour of our shores as a manga serialized in Yen Press, the series went on to be collected into volumes, giving U.S. fans a taste of what the process is normally like in Japan as a title gains popularity. It exploded onto the con scene, with hundreds of cosplayers taking part in some of the biggest photo shoots I’ve ever seen.

I’ve been promising this Nhk review for a long time. While I Could blame the delay on a massive, world wide conspiracy (which in light of the show’s premise would be completely appropriate), the truth is, its hard for me to write about a show that I *really* like. Sounds counter-intuitive, I know. You’d think the more I like something, the easier it would be to gush about it, but for me, it doesn’t work that way. If I think something is pretty good or just “okay”, its easy to talk about it. But if I really think its great, my opinion comes out something like, “Nhk: watch it.” — which would be a great review coming from Yuki Nagato, but it doesn’t really work here.
Welcome to the Nhk is special to me for several reasons. For one thing, it was among the last shows...

It’s good to see that they’re still making robot shows. No, really, I mean it. I grew up on Voltron — it was the first anime I ever watched, even though I didn’t know it was anime at the time — and while mecha isn’t my personal favorite, I still have a fondness for the genre. I suppose it would be easy to argue that with so many giant robot series already out there, do we Really need another one? We have the classics, like Macross/Robotech, the prolific Gundam universe (which incidentally gave their name to a late publication that was highly respected in the anime industry — we still miss you, Newtype) and the quintessential Neon Genesis Evangelion, a serious contender for the title of best animated series of all time. With names like these already established as the cornerstones of the giant robot genre, what more...
