After a nearly two-year wait, Vox Machina — Critical Role’s motley crew of D&d adventurers — will return to Exandria on Prime Video.
“The Legend of Vox Machina” Season 3 is set to premiere Oct. 3 on Amazon’s Prime Video, comprising 12 episodes, with three episodes of the hit animated fantasy-adventure series premiering every week starting Oct. 3. Prime Video also released a new opening title sequence (watch below).
Everything is at stake in Season 3 of “The Legend of Vox Machina”: The Chroma Conclave’s path of destruction spreads like wildfire while the Cinder King hunts down Vox Machina. The lovable band of misfits must rise above inner (and outer) demons to try and save their loved ones, the Tal’Dorei republic — and all of Exandria.
Season 2 of “Vox Machina” came out in January 2023. Prime Video greenlit the show’s third season the previous October, after Season 1 debuted in January 2022.

It’s been a long wait, but Exandria’s most qualified group of misfits — er, heroes — are back in action and ready to, in the words of Grog Strongjaw, “F**k. S**t. Up!” Earlier this year, Critical Role‘s Travis Willingham teased that fans could look forward to seeing the long-awaited third season of The Legend of Vox Machina this fall. Now, those fans can finally put a date on the calendar. During an IGN Live panel, Prime Video and Critical Role announced that the animated series would return on October 3 with 12 new episodes and three episodes premiering every week. A stunning new title sequence was also unveiled, showcasing epic action and notable storytelling moments from the first two seasons as well as hints of what’s to come for the team in Season 3 and beyond. Save for a couple of unfortunate attempts, Prime Video has really been on a streak of great adaptations in the 2020s so far. Apart from the more mainstream examples of that, the streamer released an animated TV show based on an iconic tabletop game franchise which, in many fans’ eyes, is the best adaptation of said game’s universe to date.
Misfit Adventurers to Return Later in 2024
Created by Critical Role, The Legend of Vox Machina is an epic animated series based on Dungeons & Dragons. It’s often dubbed as the best D&d adaptation out there even despite Honor Among Thieves’ existence. Like the latter, Vox Machina follows a group of misfit adventurers who are dragged into the whole “saving the world” business right from their favorite tavern.
First in The Washington Post article and then on Critical Role CEO Travis Willingham’s X account, the confirmations of Season 3 suddenly appeared.

After building an audience of more than 3.5 million viewers across YouTube and Twitch, Critical Role is hoping some of those folks will follow it off those platforms to its new subscription service, Beacon.
But hold on—if you’re thinking this is a repeat of Watcher‘s recent stumble, CritRole CEO and cast member Travis Willingham is quick to reassure that Beacon isn’t a way for Critical Role to paywall its ongoing content.
“Now, I’m sure many of you are asking, ‘Wait, what does this mean for Twitch and YouTube subscribers?'” he said in Beacon’s announcement video (embedded below). “And the answer is: nothing. Nothing changes for those audiences in how you view our main shows. You will still be able to watch and listen freely, with the same release schedule that it has always been for nine, going on ten years.”

Matthew Lillard knows the power of fandoms.
He’s been surrounded by them for decades, having played iconic characters in everything from Scream to Scooby-Doo to Five Nights at Freddy’s, and now his liquor company Find Familiar Spirits is partying up with Critical Role to launch a limited-edition collectible liquor based on their first campaign, Vox Machina.
The liquor, Sandkheg’s Hide, comes straight from episode 65 of the campaign, where Travis Willingham‘s character Grog buys a couple bottles and promptly gets the gang smashed.
In Critical Role’s Dungeons & Dragons universe, Sandkheg’s Hide is secreted by giant insectoids. But Irl, Find Familiar Spirits’ master blender Ale Ochoa made the drink into a bourbon with notes of baked apple, brown spice, shortbread cookies, oak, herbs, dried red fruit, and “a hint of smoke.”

Late Saturday afternoon at San Diego Comic-Con, thousands of fans, packed inside a cavernous ballroom, roared to life as the cast for one of the biggest shows to appear at this year’s annual fan convention stepped onto the stage. It was, in fact, one of the only times a cast of actors appeared at Sdcc this year. And it wasn’t for a superhero movie or TV show or any massive franchise backed by a major studio.
Instead, it was for “Critical Role,” the popular, long-running webseries that started as a group of voice actors getting together to play Dungeons & Dragons.
“A question for the audience: anyone who’s doing cosplay, will you please stand up so we can see it?” asked star Liam O’Brien from the stage. Half the crowd — many of whom were dressed as characters from the show — leapt to their feet.
“You look beautiful San Diego!

"Dungeons & Dragons," and tabletop RPGs in general, are some of the most fun you can do with a group. The crafting of a fantasy world and the improvised telling of a story as a community is exhilarating, and it's no surprise that livestream campaigns of these games have become so popular in recent years. As time-consuming as the games can be, they offer long-form storytelling that can never be replicated, because no two tables and no two campaigns are the same.
Of course, there are "Dungeons & Dragons" livestreams and then there's "Critical Role," a livestream show where a group of voice actors, led by Matt Mercer, play a game of "D&d." The show started streaming in 2015 and it quickly grew to titanic levels of popularity, with millions of views and subscribers. Fans were drawn to the show's laugh-out-loud crude humor, tear-jerking moments, and its story full of twists and turns,...

On the surface, "The Legend of Vox Machina" is the perfect fit for an animated series. Take the first season of the hugely successful actual play podcast "Critical Role," translate its fantastical story to the screen, bring in the show's crew of voice actors to play their characters, and pick the talented Studio Grackle (best known for contributing animation to the popular video game "Hades") to handle the opening credits. It's a slam dunk. Then you crunch the numbers. The first "Critical Role" campaign, on which "Vox Machina" is based, is 115 episodes and totals "about 400 hours," per player Travis Willingham in an interview with Inverse. By contrast, each season of "The Legend of Vox Machina" is 12 episodes long. An episode runs roughly 24 minutes. The recent release of the second season brings the runtime of the "Vox Machina" animated series to under 12 hours, less than three percent the total length of the first campaign.

With only its second season underway, Prime Video’s animated adult fantasy The Legend of Vox Machina is proving to be one of the streamer’s latest and fruitful ventures into the medium and geek culture-at-large.
Debuting in 2022, its critically acclaimed first season — largely funded through a kickstarer campaign and produced in partnership with Amazon Studios and Titmouse — arrived in the same year as a few other epic, sprawling fantasy TV series. Most notably His Dark Materials, The Sandman, Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and Game of Thrones spin-off House of the Dragon. After garnering an early third season renewal and just five days after the show’s Jan. 20 second season premiere, Amazon Studios announced a multiyear exclusive overall television and first-look film deal with Critical Role.

The Critical Role crew swings back into hilarious, perilous and profanity-laced fantasy action with the Season 2 debut of “The Legend of Vox Machina” on Friday, Jan. 20, on Prime Video.
As with the first season, Prime Video will release Season 2 of the Dungeons & Dragons-inspired show in three-episode weekly batches, culminating in 12 episodes total. In the new series, the Vox Machina heroes/antiheroes face off against a powerful foursome of dragons called the Chroma Conclave, which spew ice and acid, have nearly impenetrable armor and threaten to destroy the world of Exandria.
For Season 1 of “Vox Machina,” the eight principal Critical Role members (who each also serve as executive producers) needed to provide a healthy dose of exposition. That was in large part to bring viewers unfamiliar with the motley band of adventurers — based on Critical Role’s original D&d campaign, which dates back to 2015 — up to speed.

Another week, another episode of Aew: Dark which this week features seven matches… Including a Women’s Roh title match! Anyway, on with the review.
Match #1: Juice Robinson def. Travis Williams
My Thoughts: Juice Robinson makes another appearance for Aew and faces some decent competition in Travis Williams. This was a well-paced, competitive, start to Dark.
My Score: 3 out of 5 Match #2: Ruby Soho & Willow Nightingale def. Emi Sakura & Diamante
My Thoughts: The new team of Ruby Soho & Willow Nightingale get another outing, this time against the heel team of Emi Sakura & Diamante, who have worked together before and delivered each and every time. And the same is the case here, with Soho and Nightgale really gelling – I’d definitely like to see them stay together as a team for a while longer even though I’d like to see Willow Nightingale make her way up the singles scene too.

“The Legend of Vox Machina” Season 2 is putting a major emphasis on the “dragons” of Dungeons and Dragons.
The Prime Video series dropped an action-packed official trailer for Season 2, which begins rolling out on the streamer on Jan. 20. Like the first season, the follow-up will release three episodes per week, culminating in 12 episodes total.
Season 2 will follow the Chroma Conclave campaign from Critical Role’s popular Dungeons and Dragons web series. The heroes of Vox Machina will have to face a powerful group of dragons called the Chroma Conclave before they destroy the world of Exandria. And these aren’t your typical fire-breathing dragons — they spew ice and acid and have nearly impenetrable armor. To defeat these beasts, the Vox Machina heroes must find rare weapons powerful enough to kill gods. Or, as Grog the goliath suggests, they could just “fuck shit up.”

Prepare for more danger, more daggers, more cursed doors, and a lot of dragons when The Legend of Vox Machina returns for its second season in January 2023. Cast members Laura Bailey (Vex’ahlia “Vex” Vessar), Liam O’Brien (Vax’ildan “Vax” Vessar), Sam Riegel (Scanlan Shorthalt), Marisha Ray (Keyleth), Taliesin Jaffe (Percival “Percy” Fredrickstein von Musel Klossowski de Rolo III), Travis Willingham (Grog Strongjaw), Ashley Johnson (Pike Trickfoot) and Matthew Mercer joined TV Insider in our New York Comic Con studio last month to tease what fans can look forward to in the highly anticipated upcoming season. And they were also a little taken aback when we brought up the fact that the last time they visited Nycc in 2018, it was pre-the Kickstarter that would result in their television show. “I think we were all just doing the math and going ‘oh my gosh, a lot has happened in the last few years!

In the 1960s, Mort Weisinger ran more than a few stories speculating on what would happen had Superman and Batman married and had offspring, although no two stories were connected. Under Murray Boltinoff, World’s Finest Comics in 1973 began a series of stories about Clark Kent, Jr, and Bruce Wayne, Jr., which had its following. More recently, Superman and Lois had a son, Jonathan, while Batman met Damian, his biological son, grown in a test tube by Ra’s al Ghul. Once they established themselves, it was inevitable the youngster would be paired up and a series of entertaining Super Sons stories ran, mostly in the capable hands of writer Peter Tomasi.
Now, Warner Animation has paired them in a brand-new animated feature, Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons. This is one of the most consistently satisfying offerings from the studio in some time and was fun to watch,...

Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons marks a couple of firsts, although they’ve had several print team-ups and their own comic, it’s the first on-screen pairing of the sons of DC’s biggest superheroes. It’s also the first of DC’s animated films to be completely done by computer, using the same styling as Marvel’s “What If” series.
It opens with a pre-credits recap of how Superman came to Earth, only with one small addition, which may seem puzzling, but will be explained later in the film. That’s followed by what is basically another origin story, that of Superboy, aka Jonathan Kent the son of Superman, and Lois Lane.

For a brief, glorious moment in the comics, Damian Wayne and Jon Kent were the next big thing in the DC Universe. Then Jon got aged up and sent to space, and Damian went off to Kumite Island to fight his grandma and they got split up. Oh well, that’s comics for you! In case you can’t tell, some folks are a little broken up about Super-Sons, the comic that followed young teen Superboy and Robin and was utterly delightful, ending.
But fortunately for those people, there’s a new chance to see Jon and Damian goof off: Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons, the new animated feature film coming to digital, Blu-ray and other home media formats on Oct. 18. And with its premiere coming at New York Comic Con at a main stage panel moderated by Den of Geek’s own Mike Cecchini, we’re...

For the most devoted fans of “Sonic the Hedgehog,” the new blockbuster film coming this weekend will have the bonus of seeing — or rather hearing — Colleen O’Shaughnessey make her big-screen debut as Miles “Tails” Prower after playing the flying fox for eight years.
“It’s just unbelievable and joyous and beautiful and amazing,” O’Shaughnessey told TheWrap. “All the excitement and love I’ve received from the fans has been so gratifying, with all these tweets telling me they were hoping that I would get to play Tails in this film. They’ve had my back and have been so supportive since the beginning.”
O’Shaughnessey joined the “Sonic” series in 2010 playing the hyperactive bee Charmy, but took over playing Tails in 2014 with the release of the spinoff video game and animated series “Sonic Boom.” Since then, she’s played the iconic Sega character in seven “Sonic” games, and in...

After three years in the works, Critical Role’s animated “The Legend of Vox Machina” finally lit up streaming screens on Prime Video last month — delighting fans with a raucous, foul-mouthed spree of action and adventure.
The show, based on Critical Role’s first Dungeons & Dragons campaign, is currently No. 3 on Prime Video’s Top 10 ranking in the U.S. (after action-thriller series “Reacher” and rom-com “I Want You Back”). It also has an impressive 100% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 93% audience score.
The first nine episodes of “Vox Machina” were released in three-episode batches over the past three weeks. The final three episodes in Season 1 drop Thursday (Feb. 17), leading into a 12-episode second season, whose premiere date is Tba.
So what’s next for the Critical Role crew? Right now, they’re in the midst of the Campaign 3 livestream, and they are in discussions with partners about a video game adaptation.

This article contains spoilers for the first six episodes of The Legend of Vox Machina.
There’s an old adage in tabletop roleplaying circles: no one is as interested in your character and campaign as you are. But the popularity of podcasts like Adventure Zone and Critical Role have revealed that with the right storytellers and cast, there’s a large audience eager to follow characters on their wacky adventures. Following a wildly successful, record breaking Kickstarter to fund an animated special, the Critical Role team expanded their initial idea from a short animated project to a full season, picked up by Amazon Prime Video.
Clearly, the fans of the podcast would follow the cast to the animated adaptation. But what about viewers who’d never listened to the extensive campaign? They might find some value in the venture as well…after a few episodes.

The Legend Of Vox MacHina is an animated fantasy adventure for adult viewers – especially those who groove on Dungeons and Dragons and similar forays into the realms of magical creatures with special powers clashing over their various kingdoms, planets, etc. I am not one of them, but still enjoyed the heck out the first six episodes of this new series on Amazon Prime.
A diverse little band of mercenaries who really can’t fully get along with each other, undertake quests for profit. Some of them are too bawdy for prime-time; the language is salty, and the action sequences can be pretty elaborate. There’s even a bit of nudity on the menu. If they have backstories from other media, I don’t know what it is, and fellow newbies won’t need it to dive right in. The first episode establishes the tone and defines the players quite nicely,...

Variety asked bonafide Dungeons & Dragons expert Spencer Crittenden — of “Harmontown” and “HarmonQuest” fame — to watch Amazon Prime Video’s new series “The Legends of Vox Machina” and give his take on the show. Crittenden knows a thing or two about turning his experience as a Dungeon Master into a bit of a career, and that’s exactly what the Critical Role team has done on their popular D&d stream — which has now led to “Vox Machina.” Here’s Crittenden’s review.

On the evening of March 12, 2015, Critical Role had its first public showing. Bourassa’s credits include character designs for DC/Warner Bros. Animation’s “Young Justice,” “Batman: Bad Blood,” “Batman: Hush” and “Justice League” series.
Bourassa, in a video Critical Role released Wednesday about his joining the series (watch below), said he worked closely with the Cr team to create the anime-inflected character looks.
“Normally, when I’m creating a design it comes from the written word, or a comic book, or even just the writer’s script,...

Earth’s Mightiest Heroes take center stage in Marvel’s Avengers, the new loot-based action-adventure game from Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics and publisher Square Enix. The game gives fans control of several of Marvel’s greatest heroes as they take on an evil tech corporation known as Advanced Idea Mechanics (Aim), which has supplanted superheroes with its own robot army. The launch trailer has been released for the CG video game "Marvel's Avengers", developed by Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montréal and published by Square Enix, based on the Marvel Comics superhero team:
"...the story begins during 'A-Day', as the 'Avengers' celebrate the unveiling of a second headquarters in filthy, corrupt San Francisco, including the reveal of their own 'helicarrier' powered by a 'Terrigen' crystal.
"The ceremony goes awry when a catastrophic accident results in the most of the city being destroyed including the supposed death of 'Captain America'.
"Blamed for the tragedy, the Avengers disband. Five years later, with all superheroes outlawed and the world in peril once more, the only hope is to reassemble 'Earth's Mightiest Heroes' and avenge Cap's death..."
Characters include 'Captain America' (Jeff Schine), 'Iron Man' (Nolan North), 'Hulk' (Troy Baker), 'Black Widow' (Laura Bailey), 'Thor' (Travis Willingham) and 'Hank Pym', 'Ant-Man'.
