Movie lovers will know that Zack Snyder is a very divisive personality in the world of cinema, as you either love his movies or you hate them. With Snyder, there is no in-between; his vision is so specific that you will either like it completely and enjoy his movies or think it completely ridiculous and consider his movies a failure. His most recent outing, the Rebel Moon series, has been panned by critics as Snyder’s worst work, but the filmmaker’s collaboration with Netflix is still strong, as we know that his animated streaming series titled Twilight of the Gods will be released on Netflix in Fall 2024, although a precise release date has not yet been given.
But we know that the series is going to have its premiere at the 2024 Annecy International Animation Film Festival, and ahead of this first screening, Netflix has released the first images from the series,...

Netflix unveiled first looks at a whole host of its upcoming animated shows and features during an event on Thursday, and Rebel Moon director Zack Snyder was on hand to introduce the first footage from his Norse Mythology series, Twilight of the Gods.
“I love mythology,” said the filmmaker. "On a scale like this, I feel like animation was the greatest way to tell the story.”
First announced way back in 2019, it's taken quite a while to find its way to our screens, but we recently learned that the show will finally premiere on Netflix this Fall.
The project has been described as "Anime-influenced," but judging by these clips, we'd say the animation style has more in common with the Academy Award-nominated Cartoon Saloon studio.
“When most people think about animation, they think about Saturday morning cartoons, or G-rated movies,” said the presentation’s host, Christopher Sean. “But animation is...

We're just a few days away from the premiere of "Ultraman: Rising" on Netflix, the latest addition to the ever-growing animation library of the streamer. Animation has been on shaky ground for the last few years, with the animation guild growing stronger to fight for fair contractions as creatives continue to battle against the dystopian threat of artificial intelligence. Fortunately, animation is still as popular and well-loved as ever, and Netflix has been absolutely crushing it as of late. Not only did the streamer pull in an Academy Award for Guillermo del Toro's "Pinocchio" in 2022, but shows like "Blue Eye Samurai," "Arcane," "Love, Death, & Robots," and movies like "Wendell & Wild," "The Sea Beast," and "The Mitchells vs. the Machines" are some of the best releases of original animation, period.

A decade ago, director David Bruckner made a valiant attempt to get a new Friday the 13th film into production… it just didn’t happen. Years later, he did manage to reboot the Hellraiser franchise, with his version of Hellraiser getting released through the Hulu streaming service back in October of 2022. Surprisingly, a year and a half has gone by since that release and we haven’t heard anything about the possibility of a follow-up – until now. During a chat with ComicBook.com, producer Keith Levine confirmed that they are having conversations about making a Hellraiser sequel.
Levine said, “We are trying to do a follow-up and there have been conversations. I can’t exactly say where we’re at in those conversations, but Bruckner is involved in those conversations and we spent a lot of time and energy, I think relaunching that world. A lot of brainpower going into crafting the Cenobite design,...

Two years ago, director David Bruckner had such sights to show us with Hellraiser, a direct-to-Hulu horror movie that reimagined Clive Barker’s iconic horror franchise. The film debuted on Hulu in October 2022, starring Jamie Clayton as a brand new Hell Priest.
Was Bruckner’s Hellraiser a success for Hulu? And will we be getting more new installments in the film franchise? According to producer Keith Levine, Hellraiser 2 is indeed in the works!

Doug Bradley would consider a return as Pinhead in the 'Hellraiser' franchise. The 69-year-old actor has starred as the iconic antagonist in eight movies in the horror series and explained that he has never "retired" from the part despite being replaced by Jamie Clayton in the 2022 reboot. In an interview with Bloody Disgusting, Doug said: "I certainly never say never. I've never said I was done with it. I've never said I'm retired from it."I'm sensible about these things, too. I was in my mid-30s when I first played the character, and I was just turning 50 when I played him the last time. I ain't in that age range anymore. I'm now in my 70th year, and to some extent I think special effects makeup is a younger man's game."Doug explained that his dream return would be as "an older, darker Pinhead" in an adaptation...

Demon to some and angel to others, Doug Bradley achieved horror icon status for his portrayal of Pinhead in Clive Barker’s Hellraiser and its first seven sequels. Although he hasn’t reprised the role since 2005, the consummate actor wouldn’t rule out a return. “I certainly never say never. I’ve never said I was done with it. I’ve never said I’m retired from it.”
He continues, “I’m sensible about these things, too. I was in my mid-30s when I first played the character, and I was just turning 50 when I played him the last time. I ain’t in that age range anymore. I’m now in my 70th year, and to some extent I think special effects makeup is a younger man’s game.”
Bradley’s ideal circumstances for a return would be an adaptation of Barker’s 2015 novel The Scarlet Gospels, which concerns the end of Pinhead.

"Pearl" star Mia Goth has some thoughts on why the Academy Awards often fail to recognize standout performances in horror films. "I think that it's very political," she told Jake Hamilton (via Twitter). "I think that it's not entirely based on the quality of a project, per se." Like many horror fans, Goth wants that to change.
Horror fans love the actors who star in such films, often becoming quite devoted to them. It's not just the ones who deserve awards, either. To understand just how important all horror film performances are, one need only take a look at the talent lineup for any given horror convention. Many people are just as happy to meet someone who was killed third in a random "Friday the 13th" sequel as they are to talk to special effects artists and directors.
Sometimes, though, actors in horror films get swapped out for various reasons.

Zack Snyder has been a busy boy since his guardianship of the DC movie universe came to an end following principal photography on "Justice League." Though he eventually returned to finish his version of that film, the multi-hyphenate filmmaker has since settled in firmly at Netflix and is focusing on original stories rather than pre-existing franchises. Among these projects is "Twilight of the Gods," a 2D animated action series based on Norse mythology.
The project marks another return to Snyder's filmmaking roots. He made his feature directorial debut in 2004 with the very well-received remake of George Romero's "Dawn of the Dead," and his first project for Netflix was the Las Vegas-set undead action horror "Army of the Dead." Snyder's second feature-length film debuted back in 2006 and secured his status as a rising talent to watch: the epic historical war movie "300," inspired by the legendary Battle of Thermopylae. In early 2022, a reoccurring, annoying discourse was circulating Horror Twitter: “There are no original horror icons anymore.” In particular, these people were discussing slashers, and how bored they were of the just-about-to-be-released Scream and Ghostface, as well as Michael Myers, off the heels of Halloween Kills, released a few months prior. Exclusive: Jurnee Smollett is behind a new audio series based on the true story of a group of sex workers coerced by their pimp to become burglars.
The series is for Vespucci’s Paperless, an audio magazine that has previously launched series narrated by the likes of Steve Buscemi and Elle Fanning.
Audio series continue to be a goldmine for Hollywood and, as such Vespucci’s Paperless has signed with management company and producer Entertainment 360 to exploit such material.
Lovecraft Country star Smollett is narrating and producing The Starlet Bandits, written by Lexi Pandell, which tells the story of a group of women, all clothed in the same uniform – a baggy sweatshirt and large sunglasses – who committed a string of bank robberies across Los Angeles, stealing thousands of dollars, in the early 2010s. It is told in two parts.

Showtime is closing the book on The L Word: Generation Q.
According to Deadline, the series has been canceled after three seasons on the premium cabler.
The news comes two months after The L Word: Generation Q Season 3, which means fans could be left pondering what happened next.
While Generation Q is done, L Word creator Ilene Chaiken is prepping a reboot of the original series for Showtime.
The potential series would be called The L Word: New York and would shift the action to -- you guessed it -- New York.

A young woman struggling with addiction comes into possession of an ancient puzzle box, unaware that its purpose is to summon the Cenobites, a group of sadistic supernatural beings from another dimension.
Ever since first seeing The Ritual back in 2017, it’s been crystal clear to me that filmmaker David Bruckner is one of the best of our time. His horror films are legitimately terrifying and manage to tackle themes such as grief, loss, and trauma in shockingly powerful ways. My favourite film of 2021 was The Night House, directed by Bruckner masterfully. On the surface, it’s essentially a creepy movie about a woman who may or may not be dealing with some paranormal, otherworldly stuff in her complexly designed house, but underneath it all, it’s really a...

A few of last year’s most notable horror movies are still without physical media releases, and that’s because they ended up being streaming exclusives. That list includes Netflix’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Hulu’s Prey, along with Hulu and David Bruckner‘s Hellraiser.
We have no idea at this time whether or not Hellraiser will be released on DVD/Blu-ray here in the United States, but we’ve learned the film is hitting DVD over in the United Kingdom.
The UK DVD release of Hellraiser (2022) arrives on March 27, 2023. As always, you’ll be able to watch the disc here in the States but you’ll need a Region Free DVD player first.
David Bruckner (The Night House), who helmed Netflix’s The Ritual as well as sections of Bloody Disgusting’s horror anthologies V/H/S and Southbound, directed the relaunch of the Hellraiser franchise for Spyglass Media,...

I'm not sure what ritual sacrifice happened to gift us with such a phenomenal year of horror films, but scary movie fans feasted on some delicious frights throughout 2022. From the madcap twists in "Orphan: First Kill" to the moving cannibalistic romance in "Bones and All," horror fans were treated to a gore-filled buffet of murder, monsters, and bloody motivations. Even the Marvel Cinematic Universe got into the spooky season, releasing their fantastic Halloween special and loving ode to Universal Horror films, "Werewolf By Night."
But I'm not here to rank the year's best horror films: I'm here to see who is the baddest b***h in 2022. To make my list, the villain in question has to have more than brute strength, a mask, and a knife. Catchphrases are cute, but what these villains need to possess (and represent) is an enduringly terrifying idea. What's harrowing on-screen must creep off-screen, seeding...

Walmart has such sights to show you. The retail giant is apparently in the extradimensional sadomasochism game, as they now sell the puzzle box from Hellraiser as, why not, a kids toy.
Marketed as a Stem building toy, the Hellraiser puzzle box has this description on the Walmart website: “The configuration puzzle cube can move and change shape like in a movie. It can be an educational toy to help children build self-esteem and confidence, develop spatial awareness, train memory skills, and exercise hand-eye coordination.”
The Hellraiser puzzle box depicted is known as the Lament Configuration, designed by the fictional Philip LeMarchand. And since it is used as a door to other dimensions, you absolutely do not want your child to solve it–unless you want Butterball and Chatterer the Cenobites reading “Goodnight Moon” to them before bed.
Ah, the brain games. The sweet, sweet brain games. pic.twitter.com...

Over the years, dozens, if not hundreds, of horror films have slashed their way through the American Film Market, but few have left as indelible an impression — not to mention an almost never-ending string of sequels and reboots — as 1987’s Hellraiser, horror novelist Clive Barker’s journey to hell and back.
Based on Barker’s 1986 novella The Hellbound Heart, the film revolves around a mysterious puzzle box that, when unlocked, calls forth the Cenobites, sadomasochists from another dimension, whose leader resembles a human pincushion. Played by British actor Doug Bradley, the character was nameless in the original film, but cast and crew nicknamed him Pinhead, and that moniker stuck after it was enthusiastically embraced by fans.
Making his directorial debut — he insisted on directing after disliking earlier film adaptations of his work — Barker secured a bare-bones 900,000 budget from New World Pictures.

Adam Faison is part of the ensemble cast of the new Hellraiser and tells me all about his experience in our latest video interview, talking about what went on behind-the-scenes, his excitement over getting the role, and being face-to-face with these new, horrific Cenobites!
"A Hulu Original, in association with Spyglass Media Group, the film reunites Director David Bruckner, Screenwriters Ben Collins & Luke Piotrowski, Writer/Producer David S. Goyer and Producer Keith Levine, all of whom were teamed on 2020’s “The Night House,” along with Producers Clive Barker and Marc Toberoff and Executive Producers Gary Barber, Peter Oillataguerre and Todd Williams. Chris Stone serves as co-producer.
In “Hellraiser,” a young woman struggling with addiction comes into possession of an ancient puzzle box, unaware that its purpose is to summon the Cenobites, a group of sadistic supernatural beings from another dimension.

A new “Hellraiser” is upon us. The long-running horror franchise has a new, 11th installment, but this one – in a twist of fate – is good, actually!
“The Ritual” and “The Night House” director David Bruckner takes the helm of this “Hellraiser” reboot, which isn’t quite a remake of the original film but doesn’t completely upend the rules of the franchise either. It’s a new twist on the franchise with an emotional hook (the protagonist is an addict) and a new Pinhead (played by Jamie Clayton), but it delivers on the gore and practical effects that those coming to a “Hellraiser” movie would expect.
If you’re wondering how and when to watch the new “Hellraiser,” wonder no more.

In 1987, Clive Barker's demented love story "Hellraiser" hit theaters and forever changed the horror landscape. Adapted from his novella "The Hellbound Heart," Barker's film is a horrifying tale of hellish temptations and forbidden pleasures.
Despite being a minor character in the books, "Hellraiser" and its 10 subsequent sequels are best known for introducing the world to the extra-dimensional being known as Pinhead. Officially called the Hell Priest, this entity is intrinsically linked to an ornate puzzle box named the Lament Configuration. Pinhead and his Cenobite colleagues emerge from a hell-like dimension to claim the soul of anyone who solves the puzzle, dooming them to an eternity of torture. Inspired by the Dutchman, a character in one of Barker's early plays, Pinhead's evocative design and urbane demeanor has made him one of the most frightening and fascinating figures in all of horror.

Hulu’s Hellraiser, a reimagining of Clive Barker’s 1987 horror classic from director David Bruckner, is available now exclusively on Hulu.
In the new Hellraiser movie from Hulu, “A young woman struggling with addiction comes into possession of an ancient puzzle box, unaware that its purpose is to summon the Cenobites, a group of sadistic supernatural beings from another dimension.”
The film summons forth a new batch of Cenobites, led by Jamie Clayton’s Hell Priest. Bloody Disgusting spoke with the actors behind The Chatterer (Jason Liles), The Gasp (Selina Lo), and The Weeper (Yinka Olorunnife) about getting into character and how the makeup and prosthetics informed their performances.
The hierarchy and lore behind the new batch of Cenobites isn’t something explicitly discussed in Hellraiser but rather hinted at through the performances and interactions between them. The trio’s answers to our questions provided fascinating insight into their roles.

Recreating the nightmarish visions of Clive Barker’s “Hellraiser” was always going to be a mammoth task. “It’s the top tier of both the most rewarding dream job and the hardest thing we’ve ever had to do,” recalled Josh Russell, the special makeup effects supervisor on Hulu’s remake of the 1987 horror classic. “This was the biggest creature effects movie shooting anywhere in the world at the time.”
A significant factor in the new film’s success or failure was the creation of the hellish Cenobites, whose leader, Pinhead, is a horror icon on the level of Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, or Leatherface. Russell’s initial stab at ensuring that success took place on an accelerated timeline: Presented with finished designs from lead concept designer Keith Thompson, Russell and his wife, Sienna, had just three days to prep for a meeting with the studio.

On October 13, Shudder premiered “Dark Glasses,” the highly anticipated return from the master of horror, Dario Argento. Fleeing her predator, a young escort (Ilenia Pastorelli) crashes her car and loses her sight. She emerges from the initial shock determined to fight for her life, but she is no longer alone. Defending her and acting as her eyes is a little boy, Chin (Andrea Zhang), who survived the car accident. But the killer won’t give up his victim. Who will be saved?
Reviews for the thriller are mixed, earning it a current score of 58 on Rotten Tomatoes to date. But what exactly are critics saying about Argento’s latest?

Disney+ is rounding out the cast of its Percy Jackson and the Olympians series with three new additions.
Adam Copeland (WWE Hall of Famer), Jessica Parker Kennedy (The Flash), and Susan Cryer (Silicon Valley) have all joined the cast, according to Variety.
Copeland plays Ares, described as “handsome in a wicked way, and arrogant, despite not always being the sharpest tool in the shed.”
Parker Kennedy plays Medusa in a guest-starring capacity.
Medusa has been "wronged by the dogs" and loves a bitter life away from society, until travelers find her place.
Cryer is set to play Echidna, who is the Mother of Monsters.
