The 10 Things I Hate About You cast probably didn’t know it then, but the actors in the 1999 teen rom-com would get their breakout role. In the 25 years since its release, 10 Things I Hate About You has become a cult classic and a career highlight for its actors.
On the surface, 10 Things I Hate About You doesn’t sound like a recipe for success. A William Shakespeare play reworked into a teen comedy featuring a cast of mostly unknown actors? Critics didn’t fall head over heels for it in 1999, but the movie’s appeal has grown over time and attracted new generations of fans (even if sequel plans failed). And if the 10 Things I Hate About You cast was unknown then, now there is no mistaking the talent of stars like Julia Stiles, Heath Ledger, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Erin & Aaron, a Nickelodeon musical comedy that followed similarly named teenagers whose worlds are turned upside-down when the former’s dad marries the latter’s mother, will not be returning for Season 2, a network spokesperson confirms for TVLine.
Erin & Aaron premiered in April 2023 and ran for 12 episodes, averaging barely 100,000 weekly viewers. The cast was led by Ava Ro (Dino Ranch) and Jensen Gering, and also included TV vet Larisa Oleynik (Pretty Little Liars, The Secret World of Alex Mack) as Aaron’s mom.

It’s hard to imagine we’ll get a better soundtrack this year than that for Jane Schoenbruen’s I Saw the TV Glow. Bringing together yeule, Frances Quinlan, Florist, King Woman, Caroline Polachek, Bartees Strange, Jay Som, The Weather Station, L’Rain, Drab Majesty, Sloppy Jane, and more, with Twin Peaks Roadhouse-esque musical performances in the movie, A24 has now announced a May 10 release for the soundtrack, a week after the film’s limited release and a week prior to its wide release. Timed with the announcement, they’ve now unveiled yeule’s cover of Broken Social Scene’s “Anthems for a Seventeen Year Old Girl,” a key motif throughout the film.
I said in my review, “Utterly hypnotic in rhythm from its very first scenes, we hear a haunting motif that will return: Yeule’s cover of Broken Social Scene’s “Anthems for a Seventeen Year Old Girl” as...

Science fiction TV shows have a shorter shelf life than cryptocurrencies and social media influencers. What gives? It's not that complicated: big budgets + low ratings = cancellation. Hey, those space-age sets and costumes, alien makeup, and CGI aren't cheap. Meanwhile, passionate fans may sign petitions by the thousands, but ratings are what matters, and those fanbases are too small to impress execs trying to court advertisers.
Given the economics of television, it's not shocking TV studios routinely dump pricey sci-fi shows in favor of the newest "Big City Cop Show" procedural. To be honest, it's surprising sci-fi shows get made at all. Yep, it sucks, but that's show business. While it's easy to explain why most sci-fi TV shows get canceled, the reasons for some cancellations are downright baffling. These include sci-fi shows that were dropped despite decent ratings, canned with fully completed seasons, or even dumped after inspiring hunger strikes!

For this month’s installment of “TV Terrors” we revisit “Aaahh!!! Real Monsters,“ the fondly remembered Nickelodeon animated series that aired from 1994 through 1997.
Every Nickelodeon fanatic has their period where they thought the network really hit their stride. For me, 1994 was their real peak of pure kids entertainment. It was a time where they’d tapped into a wonderful momentum with programming blocks like Saturday Night’s Snick, weekday morning’s Nick Jr., and excellent series like “Rugrats,” “All That,” “Legends of the Hidden Temple,” “The Secret World of Alex Mack,” and a whole lot more.
It was also the year that “Aaahh!!! Real Monsters” premiered.
Debuting officially on October 30th, 1994, the program was another of the many Klasky-Csupo produced animated shows that had dominated the airwaves for most of the Nickelodeon golden age. Breaking in to their tendency to spotlight the lesser explored corners of our society, “Aaahh!!! Real...

Hollywood actress Jessica Alba feels women will not take a step back as the entertainment industry moves towards revival in the aftermath of the Covid pandemic. She says women are going to be in high demand, adding that if anybody is going to stay at home, it will probably be men.
"I actually feel like women are in such high demand that if anybody is going to be staying at home, it will probably be going to be the man," Alba said while talking about how the industry will change after the virus crisis, and the place of women in the new reality.
"There really is a major pull on women -- behind the camera, in executive positions, in positions of power -- because it is proven that your business will thrive and will be better off, if there's diversity. So, if you have too much of one thing or the another,...

25 years ago, kids everywhere fell in love with a teenage girl with telekinetic powers who could turn into a mobile puddle of goo at will. When The Secret World of Alex Mack debuted on Nickelodeon on October 8, 1994, the thrilling series not only became one of the network's most-watched series, but created a teen idol out of star Larisa Oleynik, who would remain a favorite for millennials long after the show had gone off the air and roles had seemingly dried up for the young actress. For every Nick star like Ariana Grande or Melissa Joan Hart or Keke Palmer—you know, those who never really went away and only managed to get more famous once their time on the network ended—there are those like...

Clarissa Explains It All premiered in March 1991, meaning that this month it celebrates its 25th anniversary. Yep, if Clarissa Darling were around today (and had been aging in real-world time since the show first debuted), she'd be 38 years old, maybe even with a 13-year-old Clarissa of her own.
It's not just that the Melissa Joan Hart sitcom was a popular show for pre-teen girls or even pre-teens in general; it's that it helped established a network identity for the channel it was on, a still-young Nickelodeon, and helped shape a lot of similarly focused shows that aired throughout the rest of the '90s.

Each instalment of these viewing notes will look at how the show's plot, characters and story relate to the comic source material, providing background information and pointers for those who want to know more.
Please note that while we might occasionally reveal the way plots developed in the comics, we are trying to be sensitive to any surprises the TV show may have in store. Recently, it was announced that Nickelodeon would be launching a new channel dedicated solely to it’s 90’s programming. And most of use who grew up during that time period with that programming could not be more excited! So it got me thinking, what Nickelodeon 90’s shows should be remade? Granted, most of these would be in need of a technological update but they were either so fun, poignant, or engrossing, that they deserve a remake.
Clarissa Explains It All
Clarissa was great to grow up with. Starting in her pre-teens and continuing through her late teen years, we saw her go through nearly everything. From birthdays and friendships to getting her drivers license and sneaking out. We saw her rebellious phases change and grow while she figured herself out like we all do during out formative years. What made the show unique was her reporting on herself style. She broke the fourth wall often,...

The season premiere of "Man Men" brought the action into the '70s -- but a few guest stars had us thinking of the '90s instead. When Peggy Olson (Elisabeth Moss) was set up on a blind date by one of her coworkers, we were immediately transported back to 1994 and the premiere of "My So-Called Life." No, Jordan Catalano didn't pop up as Peggy's new paramour -- but Brian Krakow did! Actor Devon Gummersall -- who played the big-haired smarty-pants who pined over Angela Chase on the classic teen drama -- showed how much he's changed in the past 20 years wen he popped up as Mathis' brother-in-law Stevie Wolcott. He looks gooood now, right? Gotta say this has been a really fun morning seeing all the tweets about my Mad Men scenes. Thanks for the love! — Devon Gummersall (@DevonGummersall) April 6, 2015 In an interview with Vulture, even Moss says she...

Don't get your panties in a twist, but we have some pretty big news. The cast of 10 Things I Hate About You reunited to make all your nostalgia dreams come true. Karen McCullah, the screenwriter behind the classic teen rom-com, Tweeted out a photo of herself cheesing with the cast on Saturday. The meeting of '90s heartthrobs and cool chicks - which hopefully included a slam poetry session - consisted of Joseph Gordon-Levitt, a caped Andrew Keegan, David Krumholtz, Susan May Pratt and McCullah's cowriter Kirsten Smith. 10 Things I Hate About You reunion pic.twitter.com/SVwRIu4Tr2— Karen McCullah...

Jon Stewart as “Meet the Press” host would’ve been a terrible idea — unless he did “The Daily Show” on Sunday Jon Stewart is "a supplement, a commentator, throwing stinkbombs in from the outside,” says James Poniewozik. "To put him in that Beltway-priest, neutral-insider role would have been a joke, and not the ha-ha kind. On the other hand, if NBC were hiring Stewart to replace not just David Gregory, but the idea of 'Meet the Press' itself–to create, if not a copy, 'The Daily Show,' a seriously funny issues show with a point of view and an adversarial attitude that would roast not just the guests, but the culture of Washington–now that could have been something.” Plus: Jon Stewart is a terrible interviewer who would’ve been a terrible host, Stewart’s agent wouldn’t deny the "Meet the Press' report, and...

The first episode of The Secret World of Alex Mack premiered Oct. 8, 1994. The show starred Larisa Oleynik as a Californian teenager who gains superhuman powers after being doused in a chemical called Gc-161. The show (which also features a young Jessica Alba), replaced Clarissa Explains It All in Nickelodeon's Snick Saturday night programming block, and ran for four seasons, before Oleynik, who described herself as "burnt out" by the show's success, walked away from a fifth season offer, a feature film and - in her words - "a ton of money." But let's not dwell on what might have been.

I've said here a thousand times that the only thing that keeps me from rolling my eyes every time I hear Shawn Levy's name is Zombie Nightmare. He gets a lifetime pass for that. His acting in that cheesy as hell but magnificent horror flick is supreme. Oh, and maybe that he directed a handful of episodes for The Secret World Of Alex MacK. Yeah, that buys a pass from me. That doesn't mean I'll watch his movies when they hit the theater though. Levy just signed on to direct Will Smith in...

We’re still dazed and confused by the fact that the first Smurfs movie was such a success, they needed to churn out a sequel just two years later. For those of us who grew up on these three-apples tall Saturday morning cartoon characters, it’s Alvin and the Chipmunks all over again. If it isn’t a giant movie remake, it’s the scandalous life of the former child stars besmirching our precious memories. What beloved things from our childhood hasn’t Hollywood ruined yet? Actually, we came up with a list. Read on only if you aren’t a studio exec looking for an unoriginal idea to steal.

Mad Men’s casting department really has a knack for finding buzzworthy, nostalgia-baiting guest stars. Refugees from Gen Y touchstones like The Secret World of Alex Mack, Saved by the Bell, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer have been showing up on the series for years. Last season, Pete Campbell — himself played by a veteran of The WB — romanced Rory Gilmore both on and off-camera. This season, Don Draper’s doing the same with Freaks and Geeks’s Lindsay Weir.

Ah, the TV movie. That last bastion of campy shlock and overly sentimental schmaltz that allows out of work TV actors the chance to return to the medium that made them a star. But what is a fan of the camp to do when two air on the same night? How does one choose? With Sunday night's (April 21) traffic jam of "Lovestruck: The Musical" on ABC Family and "Remember Sunday" on ABC, only one can claim victory and earn your attention in 2013's first Battle of the TV Movie.

Note: Do not read on if you have not yet seen Season 6, Episode 1 of AMC's "Mad Men," titled "The Doorway."
On Sunday's Season 6 premiere of "Mad Men," viewers may have been surprised to see a familiar face of the '90s in the Draper apartment: "Freaks And Geeks" star Linda Cardellini.
Cardellini played Sylvia, a woman who lives in Don (Jon Hamm) and Megan's (Jessica Pare) building, and also happens to be Don's latest mistress. Can't say we didn't see that one coming!
Cardellini's appearance marks the third teen star to join the AMC series. "Gilmore Girls" alum Alexis Bledel played Pete Campbell's (Vincent Kartheiser) mistress last season, while Larisa Oleynik of "Alex Mack" fame portrays Ken Cosgrove's (Aaron Staton) wife Cynthia.

You know those stars who blow up for all of about five minutes -- or five years, if they're lucky -- and then disappear into the ether? The ones whom you're reminded of only upon seeing a late-night commercial for "Totally R&B" or gasping with excitement as they pop up on the latest episode of "30 Rock"?
The Huffington Post has been scouring the Web for juice on some of your old favorites, from pop-music princess Mandy Moore to "Cruel Intentions" heartthrob Ryan Phillippe. Find out what these and plenty of other stars are actually up to. Believe it or not, most of them are in fact still working. (We didn't believe it either.)

You might not be aware, but R&B slow-jam aficionado Ginuwine is still making music. He released a greatest hits album in 2006, and his most recent effort, 2011’s “Elgin,” debuted at a crisp No.

As much as "The Secret World of Alex Mack" was known for a girl with melting powers, the Nickelodeon show was also constantly associated with hats. However, as Thomas W. Lynch explained in HuffPost TV's "Alex Mack" retrospective, the hats almost didn't happen.

With a penchant for hats and a wry smile, Larisa Oleynik squinted and pointed her way into the hearts of kids growing up in the 90s as the titular character on Nickelodeon's "The Secret World of Alex Mack."
The series, created by Thomas W. Lynch and Ken Lipman, ran from 1994-1998 on Nickelodeon and was a cornerstone of the network's Snick block of kid programming.

Growing up my staple television shows all came from the Nickelodeon Network. There were comedies such as All That, The Secret World of Alex Mack, Clarissa Explains It All, and so on. Nickelodeon seemed to be the voice of teens everywhere with quirky characters, fashion trends, catchy phrases and relatable story-lines that you wanted to model yourself after. It seems that tides have turned with the incredible breakout and phenomenal force of ABC Family which has become seemingly the voice of the new teen generation. With titillating and edgy programs like Pretty Little Liars, Bunheads, Baby Daddy, Switched At Birth, and The Lying Game, drama, humor, friendship, and family are all concepts and keywords that have taken center stage for teens and they can't seem to get enough of living for the thrills with ABC Family.
Everyone has their special TV nights, nights for "must-see TV," and growing up with Nickelodeon that was Saturday night.
