Across his career, Tom Cruise has made many all-time-great movies – from his early character drama work in A Few Good Men and Jerry Maguire, to the high-flying Top Gun and its sequel Maverick, to… well, every Mission: Impossible movie. But in recent years, there’s been another Cruise movie that’s stood particularly tall – Edge Of Tomorrow, the alien-attack time-loop movie that sees Cruise get splattered again and again while trying to figure out how to beat the marauding ‘Mimics’ intent on taking over Earth. The film, directed by Doug Liman and co-starring Emily Blunt, sadly didn’t set the box office alight on release, but picked up a major following as a top-tier Cruise movie – and the star clearly agrees.
On social media, Cruise shared a thread celebrating 10 years since Edge Of Tomorrow hit the big screen – celebrating the movie, and shouting out his collaborators. “I want to take...

Tom Cruise’s 1996 sports comedy-drama, Jerry Maguire has been the source of many iconic quotes that have been ingrained in popular culture, from “Show me the money” to “You had me at ‘Hello.'” And one such line from the movie, that has significantly stood out, has been the brilliant creation of the Mission: Impossible star.

One major complaint against Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds, who are currently some of the biggest names in Hollywood, is they play it too safe with their movies. Despite having starred in dramas early in their career, since their rise to fame in Hollywood, both actors have limited themselves in a bubble and are known for playing themselves in most movies.
But things couldn’t be more different with Tom Cruise, arguably the biggest movie star on the planet, and one of the major recipes behind it is the actor’s willingness to learn.

James L. Brooks' 1997 dramedy "As Good As It Gets" was a massive awards darling when it came out. The film is about an intensely misanthropic author named Melvin (Jack Nicholson) who is deeply afflicted with obsessive-compulsive disorder. When his neighbor, Simon (Greg Kinnear), is horrible assaulted by thieves, Melvin agrees to care for Verdell, Simon's dog. This is the first step in Melvin's very gradual opening up to warmer aspects of humanity. He's still a cruel a-hole, but by the end of the movie, he becomes a lovable a-hole. He is also redeemed by his relationship with a frustrated waitress named Carol (Helen Hunt), who hates him, and then hates that she sees the humanity in him.
"As Good As It Gets" was nominated for seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and won Oscars for Nicholson and Hunt's performances. It was considered a minor scandal in 1998 when Brooks was not nominated for Best Director.

It won’t be wrong to say that success is often measured by awards and accolades in the entertainment industry. But for Tom Cruise—the man who scaled the Burj Khalifa (remember the Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol sequence) and soared as Maverick—it seems that the true measure of achievement lies in the journey rather than the destination.
In a 2002 interview with Vanity Fair, the actor, now 61, revealed his deep desire to have a career-defining moment similar to Clint Eastwood’s Oscar-winning Western film Unforgiven. My favorite scene in the hilarious new film “The Fall Guy” is the one where Emily Blunt (recent Best Supporting Actress Oscar nominee for “Oppenheimer”) belts out the Phil Collins classic “Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)” as Ryan Gosling (recent Best Supporting Actor Oscar nominee for “Barbie”) finds himself in a particularly dramatic — and dangerous — sequence of events.
As Blunt sang with all her heart, I couldn’t help but think of how perfect the timing was.
Forty years ago this very month, the famous power ballad had just completed a three-week reign on top of the Billboard Hot 100. “Against All Odds” was the title song from the romantic thriller starring Jeff Bridges, Rachel Ward and James Woods. The Taylor Hackford-directed movie was met with solid reviews and healthy ticket sales. But its most notable success was Collins’s song, which quickly took the Billboard chart by storm.

Tom Cruise is the personification of the word ‘Superstar’ thanks to his unbeatable charm and a career graph that only seems to go upwards. With films like Top Gun: Maverick and Jerry Maguire, the actor has time and again proven why he is the best of the best in the film industry. Naturally, a superstar of his caliber will have gigantic paychecks coming his way, often upsetting the gender pay gap.

Tom Cruise has previously come under fire by Alec Baldwin for taking up too much of a film’s budget, leading to the actresses getting paid significantly less. A day after federal agents and local police in Los Angeles and Miami raided the homes of Sean “Diddy” Combs, the much-accused hip hip mogul is attacking those claiming he sexually assaulted them and law enforcement.
“This unprecedented ambush — paired with an advanced, coordinated media presence — leads to a premature rush to judgment of Mr. Combs and is nothing more than a witch hunt based on meritless accusations made in civil lawsuits,” said Combs’ defense lawyer Aaron Dyer on Tuesday as whispers swirled about what happened on March 25 and why. “There has been no finding of criminal or civil liability with any of these allegations. Mr. Combs is innocent and will continue to fight every single day to clear his name.”

Hollywood star Regina King was seen most recently in the film Shirley, a biopic on the trailblazing Black congresswoman Shirley Chisholm which hit theaters on March 15th, 2024. The release of the film and the promotions leading up to it resulted in the Oscar winner talking about the very painful death of her son Ian Alexander, who died 2 years ago due to suicide.

Shirley is a biographical movie about the life of Shirley Chisholm movie written and directed by John Ridley starring Regina King.
A schoolteacher, elected to Congress. It was the early 70s, and Shirley Chisholm was also the first African American woman to run for the Presidency of the United States. A woman who ran without any backing, representing the members of the working class, the minorities.
A movie filled with hope, faith, and feminism.
Indeed, more than a racial candidacy, Shirley Chisholm based her campaign on gender politics and minorities, paving the way for a hopeful future.
A film about faith, but above all about clear-cut American politics.
About the movie
Faith, hope, and a lot of political film of good ideas, faith, hope, and political consciousness. A movie with its good ideas well defined (we don’t deny them at any moment) and does everything possible to assert its thesis.

Since the Academy Awards were first handed out in 1929, only 23 Oscars have been awarded to performances given by Black actresses and actors. Hattie McDaniel made history for Black performers by winning for “Gone With the Wind” (supporting in 1939), while Sidney Poitier was the first male actor to prevail for “Lilies of the Field” (lead in 1963). Denzel Washington became the first two-time Black acting champion when he claimed victory for “Glory” (supporting in 1989) and “Training Day” (lead in 2001), with Mahershala Ali joining him years later for “Moonlight” (supporting in 2016) and “Green Book” (supporting in 2018). Physical media could soon become a thing of the past. But Redbox doesn’t think users are ready to make the transition to purely digital video just yet, and is bulking up its stock of niche titles at its disc rental kiosks, its parent company Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment (Csse) announced this week.

The company said it will bring on a range of new and older films, such as the rare “Ugly Dolls,” catalog titles such as “Jerry Maguire,” and much more. The move is intended to help serve customers who had been signed up to rent discs via mail from Netflix; the streamer announced this spring it was ending its DVD rental service as of Friday, Sept. 29.
The addition of these titles does not mean that Redbox is abandoning traditional blockbusters. Films like “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” with large mainstream audiences will still...

Tom Cruise has seemingly done it all over the course of his long and successful film career. The only thing Cruise hasn’t done so far is win an Oscar. But doing so might not be seen as much of an accomplishment for the respected actor.
Tom Cruise has never been interested in winning awards Tom Cruise | Mike Coppola/WireImage)
Cruise has been far less concerned with bringing home awards than perhaps even his fans. The actor has been nominated for an Academy Award four times in his career. He was a Best Actor contender for films like Born on the Fourth of July and Jerry Maguire. In the year 2000, he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor thanks to his performance in Magnolia.
Most recently, Top Gun: Maverick was also up for a Best Picture award. Still, despite these nominations, Cruise has left the ceremony empty-handed every time. But that...

“Dunkirk” Warner Bros.
One of Christopher Nolan’s very best films, “Dunkirk” is best described as a historical thriller. The film recounts the true World War II story of how the allied troops in Dunkirk were evacuated by sea in a harrowing event. Nolan splits the film up into three timelines – what’s happening on the beach, the boats coming in by sea, and the planes in the air above trying to provide support.

Cameron Crowe is the Oscar-winning writer-director who firmly established himself as one of the most distinctive cinematic voices working today, creating comedic dramas about the inherent goodness of people. But how many of his titles remain classics? Let’s take a look back Crowe’s 10 greatest films, ranked worst to best.
Born in 1957 in Palm Springs, California, Crowe got his start as a teenage music journalist for “Rolling Stone,” touring with the Allman Brothers when he was just 16 years old. His love for rock bands landed him lucrative interviews with such hot groups as Lynyrd Skynyrd, Led Zeppelin and the Eagles.
His background in journalism led him to go undercover as a high school student to write a book about the experience of Southern California teenagers that would later become the film “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” (1982), which he also wrote the screenplay for. He made his directorial debut seven...

With a film career that spans over four decades, Tom Cruise is arguably the biggest movie star of this generation. Cruise is associated with so many iconic film moments — the dance in “Risky Business,” the “need for speed” chant in “Top Gun,” and “Show me the money!” in “Jerry Maguire,” among many others — that it seems like he’s been a movie star forever.
He has been a critical darling through parts of his career but has mainly focused on blockbusters (acclaimed or not). He has received two Oscar nominations for Best Actor in “Born on the Fourth of July” (1989) and “Jerry Maguire” (1996) plus another as Best Supporting Actor in “Magnolia” (1999). Those are the three performances that provided him with Golden Globe wins. His other four nominations with the Hollywood Foreign Press were for “Risky Business” (1983), “A Few Good Men” (1992), “The Last Samurai” (2003) and “Tropic Thunder” (2008). Many of these roles...

Cuba Gooding Jr. settled on a lawsuit that accused him of rape on Tuesday.
The jury was supposed to convene on Tuesday at 10 a.m. and at 10:24 am a note was passed onto jurors that the matter had been resolved. The details of the settlement agreement have not been released yet.
Gooding was accused of raping a woman twice on August 24, 2013, in New York City at the Mercer Hotel. The two met at a restaurant in the city, Le Souk Lounge, and then Gooding allegedly convinced her to come up to his room so that he could change his clothes. Once there, the two took shots together and then he allegedly groped her and raped her twice.
The woman was seeking $6 million in damages.
Gooding had insisted that he was innocent and that the encounters were consensual, but he still decided to settle.

Oscar-winning Jerry Maguire star was accused of raping unnamed woman but his lawyers have insisted encounter was consensual
Just as a trial was to begin, it was revealed on Tuesday that Cuba Gooding Jr has settled accusations that he raped a woman in a New York City hotel a decade ago, according to court records. The actor had insisted through lawyers that his encounter with the woman was consensual after the two met at a nearby restaurant.
The trial was to start with jury selection in New York federal court as the Oscar-winning Jerry Maguire star faced allegations that he met the woman in Manhattan, persuaded her to join him at a hotel, and convinced her to stop at his room so he could change clothing.

It’s last call for a number of films and TV shows leaving Netflix in June. Director Frank Darabont’s underrated Stephen King adaptation “The Mist” exits on June 21, while the end of the month brings the exits of “Jerry Maguire,” “Puss in Boots,” “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,” a pair of “Resident Evil” movies and Brad Pitt’s pretty-ok zombie actioner “World War Z.”
Also departing on June 30 is the first two seasons of “Chappelle’s Show.”
All-in-all, however, it’s not a robust list so rest easy knowing an exodus isn’t coming to Netflix. This month at least.

The 39th annual Film Independent Spirit Awards will be held on Feb. 25, 2024. The Spirit Awards, which will again be in-person and hosted in Los Angeles, will celebrate the year for independent voices and storytellers while celebrating diversity, originality and uniqueness of vision.
Hasan Minhaj hosted last year’s ceremony. This year’s ceremony marked a switch to gender-neutral acting categories as well as an introduction of a Best Breakthrough Performance Award and Best Supporting Performance in a New Scripted Series Award. Honorary co-chairs were Sian Heder and Chloe Zhao, alumni of Film Independent’s Artist Development programs which are celebrating their 30th anniversary.

“Show me the money,” Cuba Gooding Jr. famously tells Tom Cruise in Jerry Maguire. Wall Street has been pressuring Hollywood to do the same, as investors push for streaming profits amid economic headwinds. Key parts of the solution for industry players, from Disney to Amazon Studios, have been cost cuts. But while entertainment companies have been showing the door to thousands of staffers, they have also shown their top executives the money — again.
In a case of bad timing, disclosures of higher (or lower, but still very healthy) CEO compensation in regulatory filings in March and April have made for a sharp contrast with layoffs and the start of the writers strike. This executive pay reporting season didn’t repeat last year’s picture of several bosses joining the very exclusive nine-figure club, starring Endeavor’s Ari Emanuel ($308.2 million) and Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav ($246.6 million). But several top...

“Show me the money” was the memorable battle cry in Jerry Maguire, the 1996 movie about a sports agent who must “deliver” for his manic client.
Matt Damon, the negotiator at the center of his and Ben Affleck’s new movie, delivers big time for his client, and so does the film. Air is an angry, trash-talking movie that somehow, in its final minutes, switches into a “feel good” epic.
In Jerry Maguire, Tom Cruise survives both a love affair and a crisis of conscience. Air is about neither love nor conscience, but the $90 million movie — Amazon reportedly paid $120 million for the rights and package — carries a daunting bundle of expectations about the future of distribution (its producers include Peter Guber and David Ellison).
Its box office numbers for the opening week were auspicious but inevitably did not fully match those expectations. “There’s too much riding on every new theatrical release,...

When director Ben Affleck first approached William Goldenberg, his Oscar-winning go-to editor (“Argo”), to cut “Air,” the sports biopic about Nike’s revolutionary Air Jordan basketball shoe line, it was only a couple of months before shooting began. Yet Goldenberg had to wait a month before reading the script while Alex Convery finished his rewrite.
It was a tight turnaround, but it led to a fast and loose production that perfectly fit the film’s recreation of the scrappy, underdog culture at Oregon-based Nike in 1984, which was then on the verge of bankruptcy.
“It’s about taking risks and greatness,” Goldenberg told IndieWire. “It’s about a lot of things that people can relate to…breaking out of the mold. And what’s great about working on a film like this is I have to watch the movie a lot, and I never got tired of it.”

MTV isn’t where you’d think to go to avenge an Oscar slight, but it might end up that way at this year’s MTV Movie and TV Awards. Austin Butler (“Elvis”) is up for Best Performance in a Movie following his Best Actor Oscar nom for playing the king of rock and roll. He didn’t win the Oscar, but according to our early odds, he’s the front-runner to win MTV’s Golden Popcorn.
The Oscar race for Best Actor was closely contested to the very end. Butler was locked in a tight race with Brendan Fraser (“The Whale”). Butler won the Golden Globe. Then Fraser won the Critics Choice Award. Then Butler pulled off a stunning upset against Colin Farrell (“The Banshees of Inisherin”) at the BAFTA Awards. First things first… The Severing is anything but a normal, formulaic movie with a clearly defined plot, character development and dialog, steady logic lines and lots of predictable and familiar points to ride along with. Tom Cruise is, to put it lightly, notable for his odd beliefs. While undeniably electric on screen, the veteran superstar actor projects a strikingly strange image away from the silver screen. It might not be an exaggeration when some refer to him as the weirdest celebrity in Hollywood.
The Top Gun star is often odd in interviews. He comes off as intensely strange and subservient to Scientology top brass, going by reports from his ex-wives about his odd behavior in private. But one of his strangest habits might be his most harmless.

Wednesday has never looked so good. “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” (Universal) opened to a stunning $31.7 million and Ben Affleck’s “Air” (MGM) grossed $3.2 million. Five-day projections for both films rose sharply just before opening to around $125 million and $16 million, respectively; initial figures suggest we’ll see those expectations met for “Air” and significantly exceeded for “Super Mario Bros.”
Pre-Easter Wednesday openings are traditionally reserved for faith-based releases like last year’s “Father Stu” and the 2014 “Heaven Is for Real.” The success of this weekend’s films could mean future release strategies will identify this long weekend as a fresh pre-holiday opportunity. That said, the result for “Super Mario Bros.” would have been sensational even had it opened Friday.

The filmmaker has apparently been working with Mitchell in secret for the last two years, conceiving the project and getting it off the ground.
While the film has no title, release date or cast, the report suggests that it is not being approached as a standard biopic, but rather as something closer to autobiography, “basically her life from the inside looking out.”
Crowe, best known for directing “Say Anything”, “Jerry Maguire” and “Almost Famous”, hasn’t released a new movie since 2015’s “Aloha”. He also created the 2016 TV series “Roadies”, which was cancelled after one season.

Oscar-winning filmmaker Cameron Crowe has had a fascinating career trajectory and is responsible for some of the most beloved coming-of-age stories ever put to screen. His feature screenwriting debut came with the groundbreaking teen film "Fast Times at Ridgemont High," shortly followed by the massively influential "Say Anything..." and "Singles." Crowe has a knack for capturing the human condition with so much reverence for people doing their best to make it through life and making audiences feel validated in ways they never thought possible.
For many folks, Crowe had finally "made it" after the success of "Jerry Maguire," the endlessly quotable romantic sports dramedy now better known for its VHS copies dominating every thrift store in America. However, real ones know that Crowe's masterpiece would come many years later with "We Bought A Zoo." Just kidding, it's obviously "Almost Famous," a near-perfect film (just edit out the non-consensual post-od kiss!

Here’s some potentially happy news: none other than Cameron Crowe is planning a return to features with him potentially signing on to direct a Joni Mitchell biopic. The scoop comes via Jeff Sneider at Above the Line. Crowe hasn’t directed in many years after suffering a huge flop with Aloha, the movie that infamously cast Emma Stone as (part) Asian. He went on to make Showtime’s underrated series Roadies, but it only lasted one season. A Joni Mitchell biopic would be an ideal movie for Crowe, bringing him back to the seventies music milieu of Almost Famous.
It helps that Crowe is long-time friends with Mitchell, going back to Crowe’s famous days as a boy reporter for Rolling Stone. Crowe has interviewed her many times (here’s a recent one commemorating the anniversary of her album Blue) and is frequently seen at her side when she makes infrequent public appearances.

Tom Hanks has starred in a variety of films, with many receiving critical praise and others that were panned. But there was only one film he did that was so stressful on him that it gave him a new perspective on acting.

As is the case with many actors, Hanks became interested in the craft during his childhood years. The Oscar-winner confided that his life at home growing up, though wholesome, could be lonely at times. Especially considering that Hanks was an only child. His chef father both worked and moved around a lot during Hanks’ youth, which contributed to his loneliness.
“My dad would get a phone call at 10 o’clock at night from a buddy of his who needs desperately a head chef and my dad would say ‘I’ll be there at...

Patricia Arquette is telling the story of how she almost worked with Tom Cruise.
Speaking with Variety at the SAG Awards, the actress revealed she absolutely bombed her audition for “Jerry Maguire”.
“Everyone was saying, ‘Oh, this is just a formality, you’re gonna read with Tom Cruise for ‘Jerry Maguire,’ but this is your part, you got it,’ and I blew it,” she recalled.
Renée Zellweger ended up booking the part opposite Cruise, which Arquette believed was for the best in the end.
“I actually think she was better for it, and she was great,” she praised.
