David Nevins has stepped down as CEO of North Road Co., the media venture launched in 2022 by Peter Chernin with backing from Providence Equity and other private equity partners.
Nevins formally joined North Road Co. company last July. The company’s initial focus has been on acquiring distinctive production banners in recent months with the goal of building a network of content businesses active in territories around the world. Last June it acquired Turkey’s Karga Seven Pictures. It also owns Red Arrow Pictures, the busy unscripted shop Kinetic Content and New York-based Words + Pictures.
Nevins has a deep background in scripted TV production from his long tenures at NBC, Fox Broadcasting, Imagine Entertainment and his 12-year run overseeing Showtime. The split is said to be amicable as it became clear that North Road’s focus and business ambitions wasn’t a fit for Nevins at this stage of his career.

I’ve been on a bit of a Larry Fessenden kick lately either intentionally or by circumstance. I really wanted to talk about the movie Late Phases which has a cameo from the man and his name in the produced by section. This led to one of our favorites in Danielle Harris wishing that more people knew about a movie she did called Stake Land. While this had a six degrees of separation angle attached to it with Late Phases star Nick Damichi also starring and writing Stake Land, it also brought back Fessenden in his comfortable producer role, oh and another cameo. We’ve gone down another rabbit hole and heard from the man himself that The Last Winter (watch it Here) is a movie of his that he wishes had been seen by more people. This movie see’s Larry in not only his producing and cameo roles...

Being an actor means losing out on many, many roles, especially when you are just starting out. Glen Powell knows this agonizing truth all too well. The actor was initially known for his role in Scream Queens (2015-2016), where he played Chad Radwell. However, he gained worldwide fame and recognition only after playing Hangman in Top Gun: Maverick (2022). He then went on to star in his own rom-com, Anyone but You (2023) opposite the gorgeous Sydney Sweeney.

If there is anyone in the film industry who greatly appreciates their rise in fame, it is Glen Powell. The actor came so close to playing many iconic roles in his career that would’ve given him recognition well before Maverick. This includes the time when he auditioned for The Longest Ride (2015).

Sony Pictures Television is shuttering its TriStar TV banner.
Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that TriStar TV exec vp Jennifer Turner and senior vp development Nicole Norwood are leaving as the division is being folded into the larger Sony TV fold. No additional layoffs are expected to come as part of the move.
Reps for Sony declined comment.
The decision to absorb TriStar TV into the larger Sony Pictures Television fold comes at a time of industry-wide consolidation as streamers, networks and studios alike right-size their programming and staffing needs in an era of belt-tightening following the end of the Peak TV phenomenon.
TriStar TV’s mission was to champion diverse, authentic characters and underrepresented voices. Those values have since been incorporated into the larger studio, overseen by Katherine Pope, to whom Turner reported. Sony Pictures Television Studios’ drama department will now oversee the development of current TriStar TV projects.

It’s been a couple of months since CBS dropped a bombshell saying So Help Me Todd will not be back to the screens with its third season, stepping down for another potentially big series to get its time slot, and fans’ outrage hasn't quietened down to this day.
Started as a mere discussion where So Help Me Todd lovers were sharing their thoughts about possible reasons for such a decision, the whole fuss later turned into a big campaign calling out to the network and somehow forcing them to bring the show back by creating a petition that so far has garnered an impressive amount of supporters.
Still, CBS has been quite indifferent to fans’ demands and the chances for So Help Me Todd to be brought back to the screens aren’t so high, but the rioting activists surely had a pretty clear vision of how things would...

Sean Diddy Combs was at the center of a movie based on his protege Biggie Smalls called Notorious. The feature had Antwone Fisher star Derek Luke portray the music mogul. But initially, Luke declined to play the part.
Derek Luke felt there would be too much heat on him if he played Diddy Derek Luke | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
Luke had some strong reservations against playing Diddy in Notorious. The biopic would follow Bad Boys artist B.I.G. from childhood and on to his ascent to rap superstardom. Luke would become aware of the project way before the film was fully realized. But at the time, Luke was given very little details about what to expect from the feature.
“One of Puff’s guards sent word that they wanted to holla and I was like, ‘Word, okay.’ So I met him, greeted him, nothing to it,” Luke said in an interview with The Breakfast Club.

“I felt good about the first night. I was singing Kelly Clarkson. I’m singing her song in close to her key and it was ‘Wizard of Oz Night’ and I didn’t necessarily pick that song,” reveals Scott Porter while reflecting on his time as Gumball on “The Masked Singer.” “During dress rehearsal that night, I thought I had it all together and I had a panic attack.” Watch our full video interview above.
Despite a rocky start that landed him in a smackdown, Scott was able to survive all the way to the Season 11 finale, where he finished runner-up to Vanessa Hudgens as Goldfish. Although Vanessa had no clue she was competing with her “Bandslam” co-star, Scott recognized her voice instantly.

The Season 11 finale took place on “The Masked Singer” Wednesday, May 22. After singing their hearts out for panelists Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Ken Jeong and Rita Ora, Goldfish and Gumball stood by side as host Nick Cannon announced Goldfish was the winner. Before Goldfish revealed herself, the Gumball had to take it off and turned out to be award-winning actor Scott Porter.
When Nick asked Scott, “Who knew you could do what you do?” the actor replied, “Not even me until maybe tonight. I don’t have any legitimate training. I started singing on street corners in Orlando, Florida when I was going to high school. I auditioned for two straight years for Disney and couldn’t book a role. I didn’t know I could do this until tonight, but I’m so glad I did.”

Jesse Plemons has become an undisputed auteur’s favorite. The 36-year-old star’s beguiling unshowiness onscreen has landed him memorable parts in films from Paul Thomas Anderson (The Master), Steven Spielberg (Bridge of Spies, The Post), Martin Scorsese (The Irishman, Killers of the Flower Moon), Charlie Kaufman (I’m Thinking of Ending Things), Adam McKay (Vice) and Jane Campion (The Power of the Dog), among so many others. Arguably even more viewers know him from his indelible work on the small screen, which began with his breakthrough role on NBC’s Friday Night Lights, continued through AMC’s landmark hit series Breaking Bad and culminated with an Emmy nomination for FX’s Fargo, where he met his wife, actress and co-star Kirsten Dunst.
Plemons touched down for the Cannes Film Festival on Friday for the world premiere of Yorgos Lanthimos’ Kinds of Kindness, the acclaimed Greek director’s follow-up to his multi-Oscar-winning period fantasy Poor Things.

With season finale time right around the corner and many of our favorite series coming to a close, it's time to be brutally honest.
The shortened seasons felt the full plight of the dual strikes. And you know what? It sucked.
Yes, the overall experience of having a shortened season has been a misfortune to diehard TV Fanatics.
But also, the quality of the seasons delivered to us has generally been any combination of disappointing, boring, unhinged, or perfunctory.
It's an unusual situation when we craved the return of our favorite series for so long but quickly realized they should've forgone a rush job to salvage the television season and given themselves time to cook up better, stronger full seasons.
At the risk of sounding ungrateful, this shortened season could've been an email for some series.
It's not the first time strikes have severely hampered the quality of an otherwise excellent series.

All the fuss around the media actually makes a lot of sense. So Help Me Todd initially follows quite an original and compelling plot that revolves around goofy Todd who isn’t able to keep his life together when it starts falling apart after Todd is deprived of his investigative license.
Luckily, he’s immediately picked up by his own mother, portrayed by Oscar-winning Marcia Gay Harden, who finds him a place in her law firm. Todd’s mother has high hopes that he will...

Before he was Jack Reacher, Alan Ritchson was the tough-talking linebacker Kevin “Thad” Castle on the football comedy Blue Mountain State, a raunchy and hilarious mash-up of Friday Night Lights and American Pie. If you missed out on that cult favorite sports series during its original run, well, you’re in luck: Not only is it already available to stream for free with ads on services like Freevee, Tubi, and Plex, but it’s going to be available to stream uninterrupted (again) on Netflix starting Wednesday, May 1, five years after it was suddenly removed from the streamer’s library. Blue Mountain State ran for three seasons on Spike TV (now Paramount) and centered on a rather ridiculous fictional Midwest football team whose football team, the “Mountain Goats,” was full of ne’erdowellers who were obsessed with hard partying. The show ran for three seasons, from 2010-2011 but was canceled by...

Since The CW revamped its schedule, the football drama All American remains one of the last originals.
Since its spinoff, All American: Homecoming, was also renewed and is scheduled to air sometime in the summer of 2024, it’s not overall surprising they want to capitalize on both.
It’s not uncommon for a TV to expand its universe into spinoffs. Most often, procedural-type franchises such as CSI, Law & Order, and the One Chicago Universe have done it.
However, we’ve seen teen shows do it successfully, including The Vampire Diaries universe on The CW and The Fosters transitioning into Good Trouble on Freeform.
All American and All American: Homecoming are succeeding the way they are. Do we need additional spinoffs?
What is All American About?
All American was inspired by the life of professional football player Spencer Paysinger. Daniel Ezra portrays the fictional lead role of Spencer James.

So it’s no surprise that Gold Derby users are predicting the album to top the chart in its debut week with more than 300,000 equivalent album units based on its combined record sales, individual track sales and online streams. But what about in week two? Users have predicted that as well, and they say Beyonce will stay on top for the tracking period of April 5 through April 11. But one surprise release that wasn’t in our predictions center could dethrone her.

One thing is clear from a quick scroll through a cable TV guide or paying attention to the featured show commercials—the scarcity of family dramas.
Once that point is brought up, it's hard not to wonder what that says about our culture and society as a whole.
There was a time when families sat down and watched TV together.
Some of my fondest memories include watching Friday Night Lights and Gilmore Girls with my parents.
However, nowadays, the idea is becoming a foreign concept if the kids are under 18 or at least not teenagers.
There are many motives behind the switch to crime-focused content, whether true or procedural, hospital dramas, comedies, and series full of mature content.
And we are here to shed some light on the reasons for the change!

[This story contains spoilers from the two-part season premiere of Manhunt.]
In an era of TV police and crime series like CSI and The Killing, using the forensic investigation of a crime scene, including DNA and fingerprints, to help find a killer and solve a murder is commonplace.
So Monica Beletsky, the creator of Apple TV+’s Manhunt miniseries, had a challenge when adapting the pursuit of Abraham Lincoln’s killer as a true-crime detective thriller, because Lincoln’s assassination in 1865, and the 12-day hunt for John Wilkes Booth that followed, took place well before real-life forensic science and the gathering of evidence at crime scenes had been established.
“I love the idea of, how do you find this needle in a haystack, this man who could be anywhere in North America, when you don’t have a phone, you don’t have cars or video cameras? There’s no 24-hour news,” Beletsky explains to the The Hollywood Reporter.

Anthony Boyle first heard of John Wilkes Booth, the actor who assassinated President Abraham Lincoln, on “The Simpsons”. The 29-year-old Irish actor reminisces about the episode: “It’s an episode where Bart is playing John Wilkes Booth and Milhouse is playing Abraham Lincoln and he turns around and says ‘Oh no, John Wilkes Booth,’ and Bart pops a cap in his ass and says hasta la vista baby which left a real imprint on my brain.” It’s funny that years later Boyle, like Bart Simpson himself, is now playing John Wilkes Booth on Apple TV’s “Manhunt,” out on March 15. He jokes that he tried to improv “eat my shorts” a couple times but that didn’t fly.
The miniseries follows Secretary of War Edwin Stanton (Tobias Menzies) after Lincoln’s assassination and the 12 day hunt for Booth based on James L. Swanson’s book of the same name.

It's almost hard to believe that Friday Night Lights premiered in 2006. Its "clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose" attitude will forever be a staple.
That said, there is no denying that All American has a way of doing things better than its predecessor.
All American is based on the real-life experiences of football player Spencer Paysinger, focusing on two different schools, South Crenshaw and Beverly High School, their students, families, and communities.
We tend to think that money brings happiness. The kids at Beverly High are privileged with lovely things and hefty allowances, but the more meaningful things in life, like family, solidarity, and character, shine at South Crenshaw.
After first watching All American, it's hard not to draw a comparison from it being a mix of Friday Night Lights and whatever teen drama show first comes to mind, whether it's 90210, The Oc, or Riverdale, but a deeper look...

Plot: Based on the Edgar Award-winning non-fiction book from author James L. Swanson, “Manhunt” is a conspiracy thriller about one of the best known but least understood crimes in history, the astonishing story of the hunt for John Wilkes Booth in the aftermath of Abraham Lincoln’s assassination.
Review: The life and untimely death of Abraham Lincoln have been fodder for film and television since the invention of the medium. Before that, books and stage plays told the story of the President who ended the Civil War, abolished slavery, and died unceremoniously. But, in all of the tales of Honest Abe and his killer, John Wilkes Booth, few have chronicled the tumultuous aftermath between Ford’s Theater and the capture of those who perpetrated the heinous murder. Aside from Robert Redford’s The Conspirator, which focused on the trial of Booth’s accomplices, we have never gotten a full retelling of the events.

Well, that was one predictable conclusion.
The final fate was reached for criminologist Josh Folsom on CSI: Vegas Season 3 Episode 3.
Unsurprisingly, Josh is still working for the Las Vegas crime lab.
That's no shock. Matt Lauria (Friday Night Lights) is arguably the biggest name among the new cast members.
In a strike-shortened season, discarding such a character would make no sense, unless the actor involved has decided to bail out on the series.
So, it was evident that Folsom would come out the other side of the review board. The question to be determined was in what shape he would emerge.
Throughout this whole Jeannette storyline, Josh has been his own worst enemy.
Gone was the meticulous CSI admired by his teammates. In his place was a scared little boy from the wrong side of the tracks, standing up for his mother, who wouldn't help herself.
Folsom has long failed...

Though 2024 has gotten off to a slow start, especially on the movies front, March seems determined to correct that. The year’s first real blockbuster, Dune: Part Two, debuts on the first of the month in theaters. Jake Gyllenhaal steps into Patrick Swayze’s shoes in the Road House remake on Prime Video. And, on the returning front, we’re getting a chance to see Pixar’s charming...

It’s a fairly big month on Prime Video in March, at least compared to the other streaming service offerings! There are are two major films arriving on Amazon’s streamer. The first is a remake of the Patrick Swayze action classic Road House. Stepping into the late Swayze’s shoes? A crazy-jacked Jake Gyllenhaal, who really seemed to want to go the extra mile for this project.
The other big film coming to Prime Video is Ricky Stanicky, and the plot sounds really fun! It follows three friends who have always blamed their mistakes on an imaginary guy called Ricky Stanicky. When they have to finally introduce people to Stanicky, they decide to hire a washed-up actor (John Cena) to impersonate him. Hilarity ensues, maybe? But if neither of those make your watchlist, there’s also the return of the animated hit series Invincible.
