An acting career that has now spanned more than four decades has witnessed Tom Cruise start from humble roles, break through with Top Gun, and then go on to become one of the most bankable action stars in Hollywood.
Acclaimed for his daredevil spirit and taking big risks when it comes to performing stunts, the star has often delivered some of the most acclaimed and highest-grossing projects with one of his most recent ones, Mission: Impossible–Dead Reckoning Part One, being no exception.

Tom Cruise has cemented a strong legacy thanks to his daring guts that have helped him become an action superstar. Apart from action, he has showcased his acting prowess in a range of genres that go way beyond the likes of Top Gun (1986) and Mission: Impossible movies. Given the star power he has accumulated since his acting debut, his personal life has also garnered public attention.

In the world of action heroes, Jack Reacher is arguably one of the most famous ones. Based on the fan-favorite crime thriller novel series by Lee Child, he has some really extreme characters in his saga, making it all the more interesting than ever before. That said, when it comes to the people who played him in live-action, there are only two names: Tom Cruise and Alan Ritchson.

While Cruise’s version of this action hero was undeniably pretty short, the six feet two inches tall towering Ritchson changed that through his embodiment of the character in the Prime Video series. However, when it comes to the height chart in this hero’s live-action franchise, then it seems that even Ritchson would look dwarfed as the series casts the world’s tallest bodybuilder in the show!
Warning: Contains Spoilers for the Reacher Series Ahead.

Tom Cruise is one of Hollywood’s biggest action stars to have never dipped his toes into the superhero genre. Alan Ritchson’s role as Jack Reacher in the Amazon Prime Video series Reacher is the second iteration of the popular character. Based on Lee Child’s Jack Reacher novels, the first cinematic adaptation of the character was played by Tom Cruise in Christopher McQuarrie’s Jack Reacher and its sequel Jack Reacher: Never Go Back.
While Cruise’s iteration received mixed responses from the fans, Alan Ritchson’s depiction received better responses, especially for his look. The Titans star revealed that he channeled one character that he was inspired by Kevin Costner’s Waterworld during his audition for the series. He mentioned that the decision almost caused him to lose out on the role.

Alan Ritchson had his breakout as a celebrity albeit a little later than some of the rising stars in Hollywood. For instance, Timotheé Chalamet and Jacob Elordi caught the public’s attention before they were 25. While it has not been the same for Ritchson, he is surely living the dream now at 41.
Ritchson’s acting debut was with the role of Aquaman/Arthur Curry on the CW superhero series Smallville. He played numerous other roles in all the years leading up to his breakout role as the titular lead Jack Reacher in Amazon Studios’ series Reacher.

“Reacher” Season 3 has added four new actors to its cast.
Brian Tee, Johnny Berchtold, Roberto Montesinos and Daniel David Stewart will all join the cast of the Amazon Prime Video series.
Tee will play Quinn, described as a “physically imposing and intimidating” lieutenant colonel whom Reacher investigated years ago. Berchtold has been cast as Richard Beck, “a college student who lost his mother when he was very young and the son of businessman Zachary Beck,” played by the recently cast Anthony Michael Hall.
Montesinos will play Guillermo Villanueva, “a DEA agent on the verge of retirement and mentor/father figure to agent Susan Duffy.” Rounding out the new cast members is Stewart, who will play Steven Elliot, “a rookie DEA agent who is fresh-faced and new to the job.”

Sure, Tom Cruise doesn’t look anything like the Jack Reacher character as described in the novels by Lee Child – but the average movie-goer didn’t seem to mind in 2012, when audiences showed up to make the film Jack Reacher, written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie (based on Child’s novel One Shot) a box office success. Made on a budget of $60 million, Jack Reacher earned over $218 million worldwide. It looked like Cruise had a new franchise on his hands. But sometimes bizarre decisions are made in the name of franchise filmmaking. With McQuarrie busy working on a different Cruise franchise (Mission: Impossible), the Jack Reacher sequel was passed over to Cruise’s The Last Samurai director Edward Zwick. A promising start. But then the questionable decisions began, resulting in a sequel – 2016’s Jack Reacher: Never Go Back – that fell short of its predecessor in every way.

Hollywood icon Alan Ritchson, renowned for his memorable performances across numerous films, has captivated audiences with his versatile talents. Despite his widespread popularity, even a star of Ritchson’s magnitude has encountered setbacks in his career trajectory.
The disappointment among Ritchson’s dedicated fan base is palpable, particularly when considering the missed opportunities of two pivotal roles that could have further showcased his prowess.

Before Alan Ritchson was Jack Reacher, he was Kevin “Thad” Castle, the Blue Mountain State football team captain in the cult TV comedy series. I’m not at all familiar with the series, but according to Deadline, Blue Mountain State is eyeing a comeback as a sequel series is being shopped.
Alan Ritchson would reprise his role for the Blue Mountain State sequel series, with Darin Brooks and Chris Romano also expected to return as Alex Moran and Sammy Cacciatore, respectively. The original series premiered on Spike TV (remember that?) in 2010 and aired for three seasons before it was cancelled. It followed three incoming freshmen attending Midwestern college football powerhouse Blue Mountain State who must quickly adapt to college life and juggle football, girls, classes, and nonstop hazing. Over the years, the series has gathered a cult following, even spawning a Kickstarter-funded follow-up movie, Blue Mountain State: The Rise of Thadland.

Lee Child's "Jack Reacher" books are tasty slabs of red meat for those who prefer their pulpy action hard-boiled, providing readers with a motley collection of crime investigations, despicable bad guys, and a hero who's the sort of unstoppable force that could make an immovable object shuffle a little. And so far, Prime Video's "Reacher" has stayed largely faithful to that ethos. The show might not hold up under critical scrutiny, but it's not meant to. Child's original novels are page-turners designed to be consumed in a single go by anyone and everyone regardless of their familiarity with the greater franchise, and the series is cut squarely from the same cloth.
Be that as it may, those who invest themselves in the extended "Reacher" mythology will be rewarded for their efforts. Throughout extensive flashbacks, season 1 fleshes out Jack Reacher's backstory, starting with his days as a military brat...

To paraphrase all those singing nuns, how do you solve a problem like Jack Reacher? If you're Christopher McQuarrie, you hire your movie star pal, Tom Cruise (despite the actor's notable height difference from the character as depicted in author Lee Child's novels — more on that later), and make a fabulous, still-underseen '70s-style political thriller/neo-noir film. If you're showrunner Nick Santora, you develop a TV series for Prime Video, hire the biggest Mack truck-looking dude you can, and make "a sharp, self-aware action caper," as /Film's own Valerie Ettenhoffer described it.
However, if you're Edward Zwick, you team up with your old "The Last Samurai" cohort Cruise and attempt to follow up McQuarrie's film with something a little bit different, seeing if there may be more to Reacher beneath his brooding brutality. Sadly, this approach failed to connect with audiences when Zwick's film, "Jack Reacher: Never Go Back,...

Former U.S. Army military police major Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson) will be coming back for another edge-of-your-seat season of Reacher.

“Reacher” just wrapped its second season on Prime Video.
This time around Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson), had to team with members of his old army squad, in an effort to figure out who is dropping them out of helicopters one-by-one. (That age-old conundrum.)
One of those team members is, of course, Frances Neagley, played by Maria Sten, one of Reacher’s sole allies in the outside world. She showed up in Season 1 and immediately became a fan favorite, even though the character didn’t appear in the book the inaugural season was based on.
Sten is confirmed to return in Season 3, which this time is based on Lee Child’s “Persuader,” another book that Neagley actually doesn’t show up in. Meaning Sten and her performance transcend the dogged commitment to the source material. She’s more chipper and richer than the smart-aleck Reacher, and their chemistry is palpable on screen.

Jack Reacher won’t be working alone in season three of Reacher.
The Prime Video series — one of the biggest shows on the Amazon platform — will feature the return of Maria Sten as Frances Neagley, Reacher’s (Alan Ritchson) former military colleague, in its third season. Prime Video renewed Reacher for a third season before its season two premiere in December and is in production on the next set of episodes.
Prime Video also revealed Wednesday that season three will be based on Persuader, the seventh of author Lee Child’s Jack Reacher novels (which currently No. 28). The season will find Reacher going undercover to rescue an informant being held by someone from Reacher’s past. Neagley doesn’t appear in the book, so her presence in the series will diverge from the text.

Say what you will about the man, but Jack Reacher sure knows how to punch bad people real good. "Reacher" itself is no slouch when it comes to adapting the sanguinary action in Lee Child's source material for the small screen. There's rarely an episode of the Prime Video series where its namesake (Alan Ritchson) doesn't put his distinctive fighting style to use, wielding his elbows like multipurpose weapons the way John Wick deploys his guns. (Is "Elbow-fu" an actual term? Because it should be.)
To their credit, the "Reacher" writers do their darndest to vary the environments when it comes to the show's altercations. Over its first two seasons, the series has seen Reacher come to blows with folks everywhere from prison bathrooms to fire escapes, vast warehouses filled with smashy things that come in handy when you need to kill some henchmen, bars, parking lots, and even...

This post contains spoilers for "Reacher" season 2, episode 7.
Jack Reacher has never been one to abide by the rules. In Lee Child's "Persuader," the seventh novel in the "Jack Reacher" series, Reacher goes out of his way to work for the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to crack down on a trafficker, deliberately breaking a handful of official rules just to do the right thing. This kernel of dogged perseverance has always been an integral part of Reacher's personality in every iteration of his character, and "Reacher" season 2 continues this tradition by allowing him to break the rules yet again.
In "Reacher" season 2's seventh and penultimate episode, Reacher and his team — his colleagues at the 110th Special Investigations Unit years ago — are backed against the wall thanks to the machinations of Shane Langston (Robert Patrick) and the elusive A.M. (Ferdinand Kingsley). In the previous episode, "New York's Finest,...

When we surveyed our readers about Vin Diesel's best role in 2023, the results were rather illuminating. The actor's "Fast & Furious" counterpart, Dominic Toretto, came in shockingly low, lagging well behind The Iron Giant and Groot. That's right, a giant robot with a limited vocabulary and a sentient tree that only repeats the same sentence over and over were considered better roles for him than the Fast Fam's supposedly beloved patriarch. The number one spot went to Riddick B. Riddick, a morally flexible antihero who would just as soon leave his pals for dead than stick his neck out for them.
Why do these characters fit Diesel so well? Well, if I may be so bold, I would say it's because they all have one thing in common: They don't require him to be remotely sexy.
Now, it's worth clarifying that when I say Diesel isn't "sexy," I'm in no way trashing his appearance.

This post contains spoilers for "Reacher" season 2, episode 4.
When Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson) first arrives in Margrave in the pilot of "Reacher," he meets Oscar Finlay (Malcolm Goodwin), the Chief Detective of the Margrave Police Department, who is investigating the same murder case Reacher wants to solve. Sporting wildly contrasting philosophies, Reacher and Finlay do not get along too well initially but decide to become allies throughout the series, with Finlay coming in clutch and saving Reacher heroically towards the end. As Finlay is one of the few characters who maintain a deep bond with Reacher, fans anticipated his return in the newest season, despite the narrative's massive time jump and the decision to adapt "Bad Luck and Trouble", the 11th book in the "Jack Reacher" series.
"Reacher" season 2, episode 4 deepens the shadow of doubt surrounding Tony Swan (Shannon Kook), one of Reacher's colleagues who served in the 110th Special Investigations Unit several years ago.

Bestselling author Lee Child's "Jack Reacher" book series focuses on a protagonist who never, ever fails. The titular Reacher is a one-man unit, untraceable and unkillable, who moves efficiently from one place to another like a phantom and bests the bad guys by the end of every case. However, Reacher's humanity is an essential aspect of his character — his deliberate isolation is a double-edged sword, a cross he has to bear for the sake of being the best at what he does. Prime Video's "Reacher," with its second season now underway, perfectly balances this aspect of Reacher's personality, with Alan Ritchson bringing the beloved hero to life in all his dynamic, idiosyncratic glory as he moves on from Margrave and solves a fresh mystery in the upcoming season.

Even before the Tom Cruise starrer series of movies based on Jack Reacher hit theaters, the character was quite popular among readers due to the straightforward yet captivating appeal of the series creator Lee Child’s novels. Grant had somewhat liked the portrayal of Reacher on the silver screen but chose to push the boundaries of a more accurate interpretation of the character by going through the Ott route, and the result was Amazon Prime’s surprise hit series Reacher. After proving itself to be a refreshing addition to the streaming service’s directory of action-crime genre contents through a taut first season, Reacher has returned with a second one, and the first three episodes of the season do a remarkable job of capturing the viewer’s attention with fast-paced storytelling and action.

This post contains spoilers for the first three episodes of "Reacher" season 2.
When a band of thugs break into Jack Reacher's hotel room in Lee Child's "Bad Luck and Trouble," they find no luggage to go through, save for a toothbrush they snap angrily in half. When Reacher finds out, he's understandably pissed: the toothbrush was the only thing he was carrying while drifting from place to place, save for passports that he kept on his person. There's a reason why Child's 11th novel in the "Jack Reacher" series was such a sensation when it hit the stands. This was the first time Reacher was forced to abandon his vagabond ways and work closely with a team of friends he had not spoken to for years. This sudden sense of destabilization, coupled with the realization that his friends were the targets of a dark conspiracy, pushed Reacher to depths never breached before.

So-called "Dad Shows" don't get better than "Reacher" season 1. While we'll always have a special place in our hearts for Christopher McQuarrie's "Jack Reacher" film adaptation, Alan Ritchson's Reacher is the embodiment of Lee Child's original creation that Tom Cruise's iteration never could be. With his square jaw and strapping build, you could almost believe Ritchson's take on the ex-army detective turned ramblin' man sprang directly from the pages of Child's original books. The show around him moves with the same confidence as Reacher strutting from town to town, delivering a thoroughly compelling piece of pulpy crime fiction by way of power fantasy.

In a pleasant surprise for "Reacher" fans, this year's "The Fall of the House of Usher" served as a reunion for season 1 stars Willa Fitzgerald and Malcolm Goodwin. The Mike Flanagan-created, Edgar Allan Poe-inspired Grand Guignol saw the two actors once again sharing the screen, this time as future enemies C. Auguste Dupin and Madeline Usher during the show's 1979-set flashbacks. The only downside? It was also a bittersweet reminder the duo wouldn't be returning for "Reacher" season 2.

Reacher has been renewed at Amazon Prime it’s been confirmed, with Alan Ritchson returning for more action in season 3.

With season two landing this month (as proven by this searing trailer), Amazon has now confirmed (via Variety) that it has commissioned Reacher season 3. In short: there’ll be more Jack Reacher action once this lot of episodes is done.
The second season is based on Bad Luck And Trouble, the 11th book in Lee Child’s Jack Reacher series. The synopsis reads as follows:

Jack Reacher originated in the series of novels by Lee Child, in which he's described as 250 pounds, 6-ft 5-inches, and as having "a six-pack like a cobbled city street, a chest like a suit of NFL armor, biceps like basketballs, and subcutaneous fat like a Kleenex tissue." But when Hollywood got a hold of him, they hired Tom Cruise to portray that mountain of muscle in 2012's "Jack Reacher" and 2016's "Jack Reacher: Never Go Back." Unfortunately, at 5-ft 7 inches, the "Mission: Impossible" star just didn't work for many fans. An article in the LA Times quotes one incensed Reacher adherent thusly:
"I can not [sic] believe they actually used an arrogant overexposed short Imbecile to create such an awesome character. I will not see it and it literally Ruined the whole character for me. How Could They Do This?"
After "Never Go Back," Cruise's diminutive version of the ex-military police officer disappeared.

Sometimes you just want to watch a tall, handsome, taciturn, hulking muscle man with a fine appreciation for the Blues and local cuisines lay the smackdown on the evil people of the world. Such is the appeal of "Reacher," the streaming show based on Lee Child's book series about Jack Reacher, a former U.S. Army military police officer turned loner with a knack for landing himself in the middle of conspiracies involving dirty cops, corrupt politicians, law-breaking rich people, and other types of no-good, rotten scoundrels.

Gear up for a new season of Amazon’s breakout action hit Reacher, which is based on the popular novels by Lee Child that served as the basis for Tom Cruise’s attempted franchise, Jack Reacher. Although Cruise’s film adaptation was able to capitalize with the sequel, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, Prime Video’s Reacher series aimed to stick closer to the novels and presents a new case for each season. For example, major characters from season one, like Roscoe and Oscar Finlay, will not play prominent roles in this season. Prime Video has just released the teaser for tomorrow’s premiere for the trailer to season 2 of the Alan Ritchson-starring drama.

It’s interesting to see how director Werner Herzog’s career has evolved in recent years, penetrating into the mainstream world of pop culture with a pivot to acting work on things such as “The Mandalorian,” “Jack Reacher,” “The Simpsons,” and even something as oddball as “Rick & Morty”.

Home to the Taylor Sheridan stable and to the “Star Trek” franchise, Paramount+ is looking for “populist” dramas that hold a wider sway and can span several seasons, said Paramount TV president Nicole Clemens at her keynote at Mia Market in Rome on Tuesday.
“We’re not looking for shows that just play to New York and Los Angeles,” Clemens explained. “That doesn’t mean they’re not edgy, that doesn’t mean [they can’t be] dark. But we want to have a broader, propulsive appeal. Something like populist literature would be a good [description.]”
Pointing toward the recent “Frasier” reboot, Clemens described her company’s half-hour remit as “big, loud, funny, hard comedy,” and if that comes with recognizable star or brand name I.P. – or both, as luck would have it for the Kelsey Grammer-led reboot – then all the better.
More importantly, the shows would have room to grow over several years.

Alan Ritchson fully embodied Jack Reacher while fronting the first season of Prime Video's "Reacher." But there are plenty of people behind the scenes who made the series the successful adaptation of Lee Child's book series that it was.
Producer Don Granger is one of those people. Child has spoken about how Granger, a longtime friend of the author, was the one that sealed the deal when it came to casting Ritchson, by almost immediately telling Child, "he's the guy." The producer had previously worked with both Child and Tom Cruise on the first film adaptation of the Jack Reacher novels, 2012's "Jack Reacher" and the 2016 follow-up, "Jack Reacher: Never Go Back." He'd also worked closely with Cruise since joining the actor and Paula Wagner's Cruise/Wagner Productions back in 2004, later taking his talents to Skydance Productions where he produced "Mission: Impossible — Fallout" and "Top Gun: Maverick," among other projects.

While Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One didn’t quite break the bank as predicted, Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie won’t let it slow a good partnership down. The two have collaborated on a number of Cruise’s latest outings, including the last three Mission: Impossible sequels, Top Gun: Maverick and Jack Reacher. McQuarrie gained recognition with his script for The Usual Suspects, which he parlayed into his debut outing as both the writer and director of a violent, crime thriller with a side of dark comedy titled The Way of the Gun back in 2000.
McQuarrie is coming back to his harder-edged roots on a secret project with Cruise that he’s describing as a “gnarly” R-rated film. Back in 2020, McQuarrie hinted to Empire about the project and speaking once again with Empire for his in-depth talk about Dead Reckoning Part One, he confirms the project is still...

Veteran Hollywood exec Katie Martin Kelley is joining Warner Bros.’ movie studio as executive vp of communications, Warner Bros. Discovery announced Wednesday.
Her arrival at the studio’s Burbank lot isn’t a total surprise, considering she worked closely with Warner Bros. Picture Group co-chairs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy when the duo ran MGM.
In her new role, Martin Kelley will lead media relations and corporate communications for the film group, including Warner Bros. Pictures, New Line Cinema and the newly rebranded Warner Bros. Pictures Animation. She’ll report to De Luca and Abdy.
In a twinned move, Wbd announced earlier on Thursday that Candice McDonough has been appointed to the newly-created role of executive vp of publicity and communications for DC Studios, the arm run by co-chairmen and co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran.
“Katie is highly regarded as one of Hollywood’s top communications executives and...

In February, a clip went viral of Steven Spielberg telling Tom Cruise at an Oscars luncheon that he “saved Hollywood’s ass.” Spielberg was referring to the explosive success of Cruise’s return to the pilot seat in “Top Gun: Maverick.” Released in May 2022, the long-awaited sequel was the top earner at the domestic box office last year, raking in over $700 million in the United States. It was the shot in the arm that cinemas needed after the pandemic, and proof positive of Cruise’s enduring appeal as both a marquee movie star and skilled actor — two bona fides not always packaged together so successfully.
Cruise has been leveraging looks and charm, and flexing his blockbuster muscles, for decades. Going all the way back to the early 1980s, his appeal never seems to age, even at 61 years old. He’s skillfully shepherded original movies as a star and producer, never...
