Netflix’s “One Piece” has a colorful, vibrant cast filled newcomers like Iñaki Godoy, who plays as Monkey D. Luffy, and some more seasoned actors like Vincent Regan, who plays Vice Admiral Garp. Netflix put in the work (seven years to be exact) to craft its live adaption of the bestselling manga series.
When “One Piece” creator Eiichiro Oda first saw Godoy, he knew that was his Luffy. Each of the cast members have created their own connection to their characters, and some loved and grew up watching them on screen as children.
Longtime anime fan Emily Rudd, who plays Nami, described her character as a member of the Staw Hats who sevves “like an older sister surrounded by a group of young brothers.” Mackenyu, who is Japanese, grew up idolizing his character Roronoa Zoro. HanWay Films has boarded The One, an erotic thriller starring Melissa Barrera and Nicholas Hoult and will launch sales at the Cannes Film Festival.
The project comes from writer-director team Kevin Armento and Jaki Bradley and is billed as “a nightmarish horror about the romantic and psychological warfare waged by our beloved popular entertainment — and also begs the question… are we, the viewers, complicit?”
Barrera, who’s coming off box office horror hit Scream VI, leads the cast opposite the Emmy and Screen Actors Guild Award-nominated Hoult. Barrera plays Taylor, whose last-ditch effort to find love by becoming a contestant on a reality dating show begins to feel terrifyingly real as she becomes a finalist. Amidst an opulent beachfront setting, fairy-tale dates and champagne, “pursuit turns into obsession and rivalry turns into treachery as reality itself blurs.”
HanWay Films is handling worldwide sales, with WME Independent and UTA co-repping the film for North America.

This article contains spoilers for "Succession."
When tech billionaire Lukas Matsson first appeared on "Succession" in season 3, Elon Musk officially became the topical cultural figure of the moment, a caricature too absurd not to satirize. "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery" and even less popular films like "Moonshot" have since taken their own stab at Musk, but none of them take his antics quite so seriously as the HBO drama. He might seem like a punchline, but Matsson has revealed himself to be a very major player in a very short amount of time — whether the audience realizes it or not.
Mattson is the Swedish Prince of Silicon Valley played by "Infinity Pool" star Alexander Skarsgård, whose company GoJo is set to purchase Waystar in season 4. The tech titan first appears in the Emmy-nominated season 3 episode "Too Much Birthday," wallowing in the V.I.P. treehouse at Kendall's extravagant 40th bash.

Ballet has captivated audiences for centuries — there's something effortlessly elegant about it. In a surprise to no one, stories revolving around ballet make for intriguing movies. It's a world we know so little about — where there's always a mile to go, a bigger goal to accomplish.
In recent times, most films centered on ballerinas tend to include themes about achieving greatness while navigating jealousy in a cutthroat industry where attaining perfection isn't a need; it is a necessity. There's already an exciting take coming out in the form of the "John Wick" spin-off starring Ana de Armas, in which the actress plays a dancer-assassin who sets out to exact revenge for her family — and there's another, totally-unrelated, action-thriller flick also centered on ballerinas being helmed by Vicky Jewson (The Witcher: Blood Origin) from a script by Kate Freund.
It's called "Ballerina Overdrive" and it features one hell of a cast.

From Gunpowder Milkshake to Ballerina Overdrive, Lena Headey sure does know how to pick projects with awesome titles. Deadline just announced the latter action-thriller today, which also features Yara Shahidi (Grown-ish), Isabela Merced (Father of the Bride), Lana Condor (Moonshot), Millicent Simmonds (A Quiet Place) and Iris Apatow (The Bubble).
David Leitch is producing Ballerina Overdrive, which oddly enough seems to have nothing to do with Ballerina, the upcoming John Wick spinoff.
In Ballerina Overdrive, “A troupe of ballerinas find themselves fighting for survival as they attempt to escape from a remote inn after their bus breaks down on the way to a competition.”
The film is said to feature “dance-based action choreography,” and it’s being launched at the upcoming European Film Market in Berlin by Vincent Maraval and Kim Fox’s The Veterans for international and CAA Media Finance for domestic.

It might be time for Disney to pencil in “Hocus Pocus 3” on its production calendar already. And based on how “How Pocus 2” performed for Disney+ in its debut weekend, there probably won’t be a 29-year gap between movies, either.
“Hocus Pocus 2,” the sequel to the 1993 comedy-fantasy classic, was the most streamed movie in the U.S. last weekend, according to Whip Media’s movie ranker — which reflects data from TV Time, a television and movie app that tracks viewer interest across 22 million global registered users.
And not only did the flick — which saw Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy reprise their roles from the first film — take the top spot in Whip Media’s rankings, it also helped push “Hocus Pocus” into second place for the weekend.

Julia Pott, an animator who serves as the creator on “Summer Camp Island,” has expressed disappointment in HBO Max’s decision to remove the series from its library.
The streamer confirmed plans to remove “Summer Camp Island” and 35 other titles, including 19 more HBO Max originals, from its catalog on Wednesday evening.
“We worked for five years to make 100 episodes of animation. We worked late into the night, we let ourselves go, we were a family of hard working artists who wanted to make something beautiful, and HBO Max just pulled them all like we were nothing,” Pott wrote. “Animation is not nothing!”

HBO Max’s library of HBO shows is getting smaller: A number of the pay cabler’s past series, including the Martin Scorsese-produced rock and roll drama Vinyl and the Jennifer Garner comedy Camping, have been removed from the streaming service.
Along with Vinyl and Camping, HBO Max no longer hosts the Kathryn Hahn miniseries Mrs. Fletcher, the Merritt Wever and Domhnall Gleeson comedy thriller Run and the Tim Robbins and Holly Hunter family drama Here and Now. Additionally, At Home With Amy Sedaris, which ran for three seasons on fellow Warner Bros. Discovery outlet truTV, has disappeared from the streaming service as well.

HBO Max has pulled six original films from its library amid the ongoing Warner Bros. Discovery merger, and more cuts are on the horizon. Among the casualties of these cuts are the original films Moonshot starring Cole Sprouse and Lana Condor, Superintelligence featuring Melissa McCarthy, 2020’s The Witches with Anne Hathaway and Octavia Spencer, American Pickle starring Seth Rogen, Locked Down with Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Charm City Kings. Moonshot (Credit: Bob Mahoney /© HBO Max /Courtesy Everett Collection) Along with those released titles, LeBron James and Maverick Carter’s House Party reboot has also been shelved after missing its slated July 28 premiere. According to IndieWire, these pulls from the platform are part of a long list of films and shows that will be removed from HBO Max and Discovery+ as Warner Bros. Discovery executives get ready to turn two streaming services into one. Content being targeted for removal are titles that...

HBO Max has removed at least a half-dozen Warner Bros. movies made specifically for HBO Max, IndieWire has confirmed — and more cuts are coming.
“Moonshot” starring Cole Sprouse and Zach Braff, “Superintelligence” starring Melissa McCarthy (and written by her husband Ben Falcone), the 2020 remake of “The Witches,” “An American Pickle” starring Seth Rogen, “Locked Down” starring Chiwetel Ejiofor and Anne Hathaway, and Sundance title “Charm City Kings” were the ones noticeably scrubbed from HBO Max over the past few months. Also permanently benched was LeBron James and Maverick Carter’s “House Party” reboot, which was slated to premiere July 28 on HBO Max but was never released.
A person with knowledge of the decision told IndieWire the six movies in question, as first discussed on a Reddit thread and reported by Variety, are part of a long list of films and series being pulled off HBO Max and Discovery+ as Warner Bros.

The fallout from the surprise shelving of DC’s “Batgirl” continues, as at least six different movies billed as Max Original films have been quietly removed from HBO Max in recent days.
Some eagle-eyed Reddit viewers were first to notice the absence of the titles, all of which were exclusively released for streaming and skipped theaters. Those movies include the Anne Hathaway films “The Witches” and “Locked Down,” the Melissa McCarthy comedy “Superintelligence,” the Seth Rogen comedy “An American Pickle,” the Dylan Sprouse sci-fi romance “Moonshot” and the Sundance drama “Charm City Kings.”
Additionally, a remake of “House Party” from LeBron James’ Springhill Entertainment that was originally meant to debut on HBO Max on July 28 did not launch and was scrubbed from the release calendar.
Reps for HBO Max did not respond to a request for comment.

Warner Bros. Discovery has been quietly culling content from HBO Max — including several Warner Bros. movies that were exclusively streaming on the service — in what appears to be an effort to cut costs.
Within the past few weeks, at least six Warner Bros. movies have been removed from HBO Max: “Moonshot,” a sci-fi rom-com starring Lana Condor and Cole Sprouse; artificial-intelligence dystopia comedy “Superintelligence,” starring Melissa McCarthy; Robert Zemeckis’ 2020 remake of “The Witches,” starring Anne Hathaway, Octavia Spencer, Stanley Tucci and Chris Rock; comedy “An American Pickle,” starring Seth Rogen as an immigrant who wakes up after being pickled for 100 years; Doug Liman heist pic “Locked Down” with Anne Hathaway and Chiwetel Ejiofor; and drama “Charm City Kings” from director Angel Manuel Soto.

Bryan Cranston is reuniting with former Sony Pictures Television chairman Steve Mosko.
The former Emmy-winning Breaking Bad star has inked a TV producing deal with Mosko’s Village Roadshow. Mosko, during his tenure atop Sony, was among the primary executives who developed and oversaw AMC’s Breaking Bad.
Under the pact, Cranston and his Moonshot Entertainment banner will create and develop TV content for various distribution platforms. Cranston had a long relationship with Sony TV and, following the show’s five-season conclusion, opened a new chapter with the indie studio and signed a first-look deal back in 2013. His Moonshot banner — named after Dodger favorite Wally Moon’s famed home run — was based at Sony until mid-2019, when Cranston signed a multiple-year pact with Warner Bros. TV. That deal has since expired, paving the way for Cranston to reunite with Mosko at Village Roadshow.

Erika and Gia are best friends about to graduate from high school in Netflix’s new series “Boo, Bitch” when they realize that they’ve spent most of their formative years being mildly bullied and thoroughly boring. So in a last-ditch effort to leave their mark on high school forever, they decide to party it up right through prom. Unfortunately, the first night they muster up the courage to move past their social anxiety to party and drink, a freak accident leaves Erika dead — and confused.
“Boo, Bitch” is “Booksmart” meets “The Sixth Sense” for the “Riverdale” set, with a surprise twist that is worth the wait but you’ll need a couple of lattes to get there. The series stars Lana Condor as Erika Vu and Zoe Margaret Coletti (“Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark”) as Gia, besties who have known each other since elementary school.

This Instagram post will definitely make you crack a smile. Cole Sprouse shared a selfie to his Instagram on June 7 that gave fans a good look at his face—and his bare butt. The Riverdale actor captioned the picture with the message, "Good morning to my publicity team." Naturally, the photoshopped snap—which was seemingly enhanced to give Cole a rounder tush—sent the internet into a frenzy, and followers of the actor did not hold back when it came to making Cole the butt of all jokes. Cole's girlfriend, Ari Fournier, gave her honest thoughts in the comment section by writing, "how long until this gets taken down." Meanwhile, Cole's Moonshot co-star Mason Gooding also...

"Keep moving forward." "It's the only direction we have." Vertical has revealed a fun trailer for Wyrm, an awkward indie comedy from filmmaker Christopher Winterbauer. This was his feature debut, adapting his own short film (that we posted back in 2019), and it initially premiered in 2019 at Fantastic Fest. It's never been released until now, and in the meantime Winterbauer made a movie for HBO called Moonshot. In an alternative 1990s that feels equal parts Yorgos Lanthimos and Todd Solondz (but gentler), an awkward teen must complete a school requirement in which students wear electronic collars that detach only upon their first kiss. Scary! Will he pass his Level One or end held back and embarrassed? They definitely sounds like a cousin to Lanthimos' The Lobster. It stars Theo Taplitz as Wyrm, Lulu Wilson, Sosie Bacon, Natasha Rothwell, Paula Pell, Azure Brandi; with Tommy Dewey, Dan Bakkedahl, Rosemarie DeWitt, Lukas Gage,...

"Riverdale" star Cole Sprouse recently opened up about the damaging experiences that come with being a child star - particularly for young women - in an interview with The New York Times. Sprouse has been acting since the age of 6, with one of his first solo roles being his cameo on "Friends" as the son of Ross Geller. He later starred in Disney's "The Suite Life of Zack & Cody," followed by seven seasons of "Riverdale." His latest release is HBO Max rom-com "Moonshot," which he stars in alongside "To All the Boys I've Loved Before" actor Lana Condor.
In response to a question about child stars either "[spiraling] out of control" or "[coming] out Ok," Sprouse explained: "My brother and I used to get quite a bit of, 'Oh, you made it out! Oh, you're unscathed!' No. The young women on the channel we were on [Disney Channel] were so...

In February, the moon fell in Roland Emmerich's sci-fi disaster movie, "Moonfall." In March, the moon was then shot — full of love — in the HBO Max rom-com, "Moonshot." In April, we are happy to report that director Jorma Taccone is here to pick the moon up and keep running with it in a film called "Moonland."
Since the script for "Moonland" is written by Bret McKenzie — one half of the musical comedy duo Flight of the Conchords — and since Taccone himself is one third of the musical comedy trio, The Lonely Island, "Moonland" will serve as the movie equivalent of a mock-rock supergroup. Photo: ‘Moonshot’ A Familiar Face in Space Going into the latest HBO Max original film ‘Moonshot’, I was cautiously optimistic. On one hand, I’m not someone who’s strongly into romantic comedies, as stories centered around love are ones I feel are generally some of the least interesting in terms of what film has to offer. On the other hand, this movie blends romantic comedy-drama with science fiction, and a cheesy teen romance film with a sci-fi backdrop did sound potentially interesting. Also of note is the fact that this movie stars Cole Sprouse, someone who, along with his brother Dylan, has been in the acting business since the two were very young. As someone who first came to know about them from the Disney Channel sitcom they starred in, ‘The Suite Life of Zack and Cody’, and its sequels series ‘The Suite Life on Deck’, which I watched quite a few years ago,...

Rarely have the romantic comedy and science-fiction genres overlapped in the past, but “Moonshot” changes that. In this movie’s universe, Mars has been terraformed and colonized by the smartest humans from Earth, and Earth in turn has become the receptacle of all the trash from Mars.
Introducing new concepts like algae waste reduction, quantum splicing and more, “Moonshot” takes place on Earth, in space and on Mars. The cast is packed with veterans like Cole Sprouse and Lana Condor, as well as newer actors and actresses like Mason Gooding and Michelle Buteau.

“Moonshot” ambitiously crosses sci-fi and rom-com into one epic story about a young girl who travels to a new frontier and discovers who she really is. Equally full of scientific advances, hilarious bits paired with cute romantic scenes, “Moonshot” teaches some valuable lessons about Earth and our future, love, growth and more.
A pretty diverse cast of actors and actresses brought this story to life, including Lana Condor — known for her role in Netflix’s “To All the Boys” adaptations, — and Cole Sprouse, who has been a star since he was a child.

After making three “To All the Boys” movies back-to-back, actress Lana Condor wasn’t exactly anti-romantic comedy but was certainly looking for something different. Enter “Moonshot,” an original film that blends the sci-fi and rom-com genres to delightful effect.
“I had honestly just never seen anything like [it] cross my desk,” Condor told TheWrap in a recent interview about her new film. “A sci-fi-like rom-com isn’t even really a genre because it’s not really done. And I was just so curious about that genre because I love to try new things.”
Condor’s character Sophie is finishing up school on earth, writing her thesis and dreaming of the day she gets to reunite with her longtime boyfriend Calvin Riggins (Mason Gooding), whose family now resides on Mars. Sophie meets Walt (Cole Sprouse) at a party that her friends convince her to throw one night, but Walt doesn’t make the best first impression.

Lana Condor and Cole Sprouse team up in the new sci-fi romcom "Moonshot," where the duo play college students who end up on a space ship headed to Mars. Sophie has to help Walt stay hidden away so they can both make it to the red planet.
In an exclusive clip from "Moonshot," Sophie smuggles Walt into her room and urges him to stay there until they make it to Mars. Walt is less sure that staying in a small space together is a plan for success. "What do you think happens when two people...

It’s another giant week of television, with many movies and TV sharing an overlapping space theme – Marvel Studios’ “Moon Knight” is about a superhero (Oscar Isaac) who transforms under the cover of darkness; Richard Linklater returns to his youth (and the initial United States space program) in “Apollo 10 ½: A Space Age Childhood;” and “Moonshot” features a YA romance that plays out via a voyage to the red planet.

What's better than a rom-com? The upcoming HBO Max movie "Moonshot" seems to think the answer to that question is "a rom-com in space"! Starring Cole Sprouse and Lana Condor, the sci-fi rom-com follows two unlikely allies on a space shuttle to a Mars colony. It definitely sounds like the kind of world that could support a ton of stories, but if you're wondering whether a "Moonshot" sequel is in the works, it might be a while before we get answers.
There are at least a few behind-the-scenes factors that could make a sequel easier. According to Deadline, "Moonshot" is the second movie in a four-movie deal between production company Berlanti/Schechter Films and HBO Max.
The first movie in the deal, "Unpregnant," hit HBO Max in 2020. That still leaves two more movies to go to complete the deal, and there's really no reason one of those couldn't be a "Moonshot" sequel.
