For many people, high school isn’t the easiest time. Between the not-so-great fashion choices (whose idea was it to layer two polos on top of each other?), awkward exchanges with your crush and the insane pressure to decide what you want to do with your life, simply trying to, well, be a normal person is hard. And it’s not even just about school: Coming into your own is arguably even harder than passing any class with a B+ average. While this may never be a time that you would want to relive, stories on-screen can often show that there was beauty in the process.
Even if you did have a table to sit at in the lunchroom during high school, these coming-of-age films, including the newly released Tall Girl 2, capture many relatable facets of growing up — in all its painful glory.

The legacy of the late Ivan Reitman lives on with “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” (Sony/$5.99) for which he was the sole producer, repeated at #1 on all VOD charts this week. Its recent reduced price sustained a successful multi-platform run ($200 million theatrical worldwide) for a $75 million production.
The film was directed by his son and reflects a return to box office form for both. Reitman père had more than 20 projects in varying stages of development. “Afterlife” showed he remained vital in comedy, a genre that gets short shrift in theaters today.
VOD charts showed little change this week, including any impact from last Tuesday’s Oscar nominations. “Dune” (Warner Bros./$5.99) rose from last week, taking two #2 slots and placing on all three. The only other films among the top contenders to appear are “King Richard” (Warner Bros./$19.99), which is #7 at Vudu, and “Belfast” (Focus/$19.99), #10 at iTunes.

Sam Claflin plays an uptight novelist on a Mexican book tour in a romantic comedy short on romance and comedy
Ever since it was insisted that Netflix had single-handledly resurrected the romantic comedy despite the general hideousness of the romcoms they were releasing, streamers have churned them out by the dozen, quality be damned.
As Valentine’s Day looms, with Netflix still basking in the success of last month’s The Royal Treatment, the next week will see the teen sequel Tall Girl 2 and Turkish offering Love Tactics also added to its catalogue. At the same time, Amazon will launch the Jenny Slate-Charlie Day comedy I Want You Back and Universal will give Marry Me, J-Lo’s glossy return to the genre, a hybrid cinema-Peacock launch. Space Force will take flight on Netflix with its second season on February 18.
The streamer dropped the trailer on Thursday, and it looks considerably funnier than its predecessor.
“Season 2 of Space Force picks up with General Naird and his underdog team having to prove their worth to a new administration while dealing with interpersonal challenges,” reads the description.
“Will the group come together or fall apart under the pressure…? Space Force is only human after all.”
“General Naird, it’s been suggested that you are unstable, incompetent, fragile, eccentric, indecisive, and potentially treasonous,” says the new Secretary of Defense.
“You have five months to prove yourself, or Potus will install alternative command.”
Steve Carell returns as the lead, while John Malkovich, Ben Schwartz, Tawny Newsome, Diana Silvers, Jimmy O. Yang, and Don Lake are all set to return.
