Bodies (2023)
Preposterous even for a science-fiction
I consider time travel as a paradox. Hence, I despise any time travel related web series. Even so, I watched the entire series as the initial episodes were quite promising with excitement. However, after watching the entire series, I was aghast as I had wasted my time watching a story similar to the Spierig Brother's PREDESTINATION. In addition, the plot is filled with such questions/ holes that I am seriously thinking about raising a court case for wasting my time. The questions are,
1) The story talks about the breaking of the time loop created by Commander Mannix. Then who started the loop?
2) Prof. Defoe wasn't aware about the full capabilities of the equipment Throat. It is due to this reason that he was sent simultaneously to a multiple of timelines (1890, 1941, 2023, two times in 2053). Therefore, Commander Mannix should have versions in all these timelines too(Defoe followed Mannix without altering the machine). But we couldn't see other versions of Commander Mannix in other timelines including 2053. Why?
3) In a similar manner Maplewood have had multiple versions. But why the story neither talks about it nor about the life of Maplewood in 1890 after the death of Hillinghead?
4) Why, everyone time traveller got the destination as Longharvest Lane?
5) How the conspirators of 1941 of 2023 got the advance explosive technology of 2053 to make the bomb. (Commander Mannix wasn't a technology person. So, he couldn't have memorized a technology blueprint.)
In short, you can enjoy and cherish the series if you had already put your logical reasoning in freezer.
Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
Beautiful but unnecessary second part.
The Top Gun (1986) never needed a second part, as the first part ended beautifully.
However, I suspect that the modern-day fighter aircraft industry needed a movie, which could retain the interest of fighter aircraft in the era of drones, resulting in this movie.
The plot is interesting (giving concession to the fact that it is a fiction), making it a definite watch at least once. The acting of the major characters befit appreciation. The stunt choreography is as good as the first part. In short, the movie lived up to the hope provided by the trailers released at least a year back.
End note: - The movie was made to show the necessity of using fighter aircraft in modern day warfare. However, the mission undertaken by the hero and his team, can only be best executed by weaponised drones. That will be the greatest irony and a question that will haunt every military aviation expert long after watching the movie.
The Recruit (2022)
God save us all
I am truly disappointed for wasting my time for a series that came with high expectations.
With respect to the story, I am appalled. It is clear that the writer hasn't bothered about the necessity of common sense in such stories. I strongly suspect that the writer changed the story midway for a possible sequence. At the end you will wonder whether the series is comedy or tragedy or spy-fiction.
As far as acting is concerned, I give only two people the credit for a reasonable appreciation. They are Fivel Stewart (Hannah Copeland) and Kristian Bruun (Janus Ferber). For the remaining actors, they resembled some characters of other actors. For example, Laura Haddock looked like Angelina Jolie (in the movie Salt) and Kaylah Zander looked like Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
In short, the series is meant for those who are in their late teens, especially when they have fancy imagination about clandestine services.
Blackout (2022)
Why?
Other than the suspense about the contents of the suitcase, there is nothing to keep us glued to the movie, especially when the plot is somewhat predictable. The entire story should have been an episode for some other crime-based fiction tv/web series. I think by portraying the character of John Cain, Josh Duhamel is marketing himself as a possible replacement for Bruce Willis. After watching the movie, the following questions keeps coming to our mind. What is the purpose of making this movie? Why all these eminent actors signed up for such silly movie? Why Netflix telecasted it? And ultimately, why did you waste my time?
Shoorveer (2022)
Top Gun Copycat
The entire season is an average attempt to re-enact the movie "TOP GUN" into Indian context, within the backdrop of latest national and international incidents (This is done especially to encash the latest interest in the movie "Top Gun: Maverick", released on April 2022).
The story line is good with a lot of goofs and plot failures. But fortunately, general public who are ignorant to military technologies will not take notice of these.
In terms of acting, only Manish Chaudhari (as Group Captain Ranjan Malik, head of the Hawks program) and Regina Cassandra (as Flient Lieutenant Avantika Rao) can be considered reasonable.
Nevertheless, the choreography is marvellous.
The series would have been much greater had the makers avoided typical clichés associated with patriotic fervour. Fortunately, each episode duration is acceptable. In short, you can have a decent one time watch. Period.
The Rhythm Section (2020)
Bad translation
I believe the film became a colossal failure, due to the following reasons.
1) While reading a novel, a reader is imagining the situations, and that makes him engaged and exhilarated to the story. But in a movie, this happens by the rapid movement of coherent sequences, as the viewer has only the chance of perceiving, instead of imagining. The screenplay writer forgot this important factor.
2) The director and Ms. Blake Lively failed to convey the audience that this movie is not an action film but instead is the portrayal of the emotional journey of the main protagonist.
Van Helsing (2016)
Hmm... Okay!!!
If you can neglect the plethora of goofs and plot holes typically associated with supernatural-horror series, then the Van Helsing is one time watchable. One of the major problems is the stretching of story in each season to make the episodes count as 13.
The Gray Man (2022)
Just Action
The base story is just lame and boring. But the action sequences are just fabulous (a mixture of Jason Borne and John Wick). It is highly recommended that you watch the movie in Home theatre with good sound system. Chris Evan's psychopath character will definitely save him from the Captain America persona.
The Business of Drugs: Synthetics (2020)
Who was in cohort with drug cartels?
I like the presentation of the episode. It was highly informative. Hence 8/10.
However, after watching the episode an interesting point caught my attention. The series says that the MDMA was classified by FDA in 1985 as schedule 1 substance based on fear and subsequent outcry of the public. Do you think that is the right reason? Let us assume that in 1985, MDMA was approved by FDA for Psychedelic treatment. What would have happened? The entire Mexican and Columbian cartels would have gone out of business eventually. Now tell me, who was in cohort with the drug cartels?
Kaithi (2019)
Entertaining with flaws
Definitely entertaining and thrilling. However, the moviemakers couldn't drop the typical macho nature of a Tamil movie hero (in spite of having life threatening stabbings in the back, the hero survives the entire ordeal and leaves with his daughter without even going to a hospital); which is the major fault with the movie.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
Who is the real villain and who is the real hero?
Consider two couples who have lost their life partners due to Thanos action(at the end of Infinity War). Now assume that within the next five years, to get on with the life, they have found solace in each other and got married (with the additional possibility of having kids). This is at this juncture that the Avengers are bringing back their old partners. You can imagine the havoc it brings into their personal lives. And that makes the Avengers villains. Had they been heroes, then they should have brought back the people, right after Thanos destroyed the infinity stones in the original timeline.
Now, consider the case of Thanos. We believe that he is a lunatic and maniac. But from the movie Eternals, we can understand that he did disintegrate half of the population of the universe in order to stop the birth of celestial and thereby the destructions of entire planets.
Now tell me, who is the villain and who is the hero?
Ajagajantharam (2021)
Text book for stunt choreography
Other than being a text book for stunt choreography, there is no story. However, the movie would be a great experience, if watched in big screen with necessary sound arrangements.
Salute (2022)
The real direction of the story
This is not a crime investigation story. The real purpose of the story to show how evidences can be fabricated by the responsible and also how the consequences affect (emotionally and physically) everyone's life.
Inside Job (2010)
The greatest lesson
Don't believe "any academic" who is praising/criticizing the financial system developments, unless you verify the facts yourself. Academics with conflict of interest are the greatest villains of the financial systems.
Ready or Not (2019)
Why Grace and Charles got the hide & seek card?
It is quite obvious from the story line that Le Domas family's success was due to their deal with Devil. And because of the same deal it is also understandable that the Devil never wanted a pure heart in the family.
As a result when a new family member(by means of marriage) with pure heart, arrives, he or she is got the hide & seek card. That is the Devil wanted the other members of the family (corrupted heart) to kill the new members so that the Devil can continue his deal with the family. Hence both Grace and Charles got the hide & seek card while Charity (Daniel's gold-digging wife) and Fitch (Emilie 's greedy husband) got other silly cards.
In short, Had Alex and Helen chosen to bring greedy/impure hearted people as their life partners, then the hide & seek game would never have happened.
Veeram (2017)
Surreal
Just forget the Malayalam movie "Oru Vadakkan Veeragaadha" and then watch this movie as a modern day stage play captured on film. The cinematography is beyond words and gives a surreal experience along with the background music. The predictability of the story and the lack of drama element may disappoint a large group of viewers. Had the maker kept the connection of the movie with Macbeth, there would have been a surprise element which could have fixated the viewers till the end. The movie gives a better experience in movie theatre environment.
Human (2022)
The real heroine
While other two characters (Shefali Shah's Dr. Gauri Nath and Kirti Kulhari's Dr. Saira Sabharwal) treid to justify their actions by blaming everything on their childhood trauma, the character Deepali (portrayed by Riddhi Kumar) never stopped herself from doing good, even when she was at a much disadvantageous position than the other two. Hence Deepali is the real heroine of the story.
Pon Manickavel (2020)
Typical
If you want a modernised version of 80's or 90's cop story, and if you watch without using logic, then the movie will be excellent for you. Otherwise, don't waste time.
Sanak (2021)
Only one time watch
Meek and soulless copycat of Die Hard stories (80% Die Hard 1+ 20% Die Hard 2). Vidyut has failed miserably to properly portrait the emotional side of his character. Nevertheless it's a one time watch.
Vigil (2021)
Unnecessary cocktail
The series would have been a decent military drama (with inaccuracies irrelevant to the common public) had they excluded the personal story of the female protagonists (which seemed to be included to satisfy 'woke' supporters in the first place).
Silence... Can You Hear It? (2021)
A good telefilm
It would have been good had they kept speed of the frames matched to a commercial film rather than a telefilm.
Cosmic Sin (2021)
Sin of wasting time
This movie is nothing when compared with Bruce Willis another science fiction film "The Fifth Element". And it is a real sin to waste time by watching this movie.
Malik (2021)
Another gangster film
The performance as well as the making of the movie is absolutely wonderful. But I have to admit that it is just another gangster glorifying story.
Cold Case (2021)
A hopeless hybrid
When I watched the movie, which is a hybrid of crime thriller and paranormal horror story, I remembered the words of Carlos Gosn; "A hybrid is like a mermaid: if you want a fish, you get a woman; if you want a woman, you get a fish." The movie walks in the same line. If you are expecting a crime thriller you get a horror story and vice versa.
In addition, there is nothing left to show the acting skills of existing cast like Prithviraj, Aditi Balan, Suchitra Pillai et al.
But in spite of all this, the story (with lot of plot holes and unanswered questions) deserves an applause for showing us a great problem that is looming in the society as well as breaking the stereotype of a cold blooded killer.
Overall this movie is a one time watch, if you keep your apprehensions about a hybrid (hence 5/10).
HHhH (2017)
You can't enlarge beyond a limit
What is going to happen if a small (but significant) historical incident, worthy only for a docudrama is made into a movie? This movie is an answer to that. Apart from the music (which is sometimes unnecessarily melancholic and serious) and cinematography, the movie is worthy nothing (not even the acting performances of major actors). Sometimes it is felt that the erotic scenes are added only to pique the audience's interest in the movie, which is dull otherwise.
