Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)
Caricature : the last pen before guns talk
Already guns have started to talk in Wasteland USA (remenber Wasteland is a video game, not reality)... but still, Miller tries his last film, with the last same tools, filming the last fellow and last girl u imagine u can live with in the dry Wasteland, before the real huge strike begins...
This is another appetizer of what's coming in every one's garden. So 30 minutes is what we shall look at before trucks and morons start destroying everything in our saloon. So... enjoy.
Many things we have seen in these last fifteen years show up in a funny way here. The pleasure is mostly to see them painted again, with dramatical talent and action. Look's like a harsh and fast... but fun and rich drawing of very sad memories ! But the first 30 min. are very very entertaining.
La loi du marché (2015)
If very low films are now the law...
Another dead bone... This is pure dirt... so low, that people run for it at Cannes, because it's so morally respectable. I had the chance to look at the very start, first scene of it in the middle of last Miller's workhorse Mad Max Fury Road and another big and great film, Lawrence of Arabia... Well, I had a hard time. Oh boy it's so low... so slow and so disastrous ! Like sniffing a dead chip out of r-o-t-t-en waters, dried on a dog's s-h-i-t for one night long. Just so unbelievable...
I don't care saying it's a very bad work, when people are just ashamed, because it's about morons and poor sick people. OK u only find morons in this film... But even morons have a kind of beauty, right ? This is the dead head of social doctrines, it's not about people. Go for this social dry toast. It's one of a kind. Let me see... Imagine yourself in front of two heroes arguing about learning some insane manual job that isn't even gonna pay ! But maybe one should learn if he wanna stay in a active state of mind ! But... but...
So one and one... If very low is now the law... nobody will feel lonely facing the dead head of these so politically correct doctrines.
The Passion of the Christ (2004)
Second Thoughts on the Cross
When u go for the cross, there are no second thoughts that can help you. When u look at the "Passion of the Christ" for the second time there are many second thoughts about the first impressions. About cinema and aesthetics, more than about human compassion. So... the conclusion is that there are a lot, too many weakness along this film. So it becomes to look like the irregular copy of a bad scholar and just distracts you from the subject... And story as some holes... so you stop the film and forget to look for the next part... and you don't even need or want to go further. The big thing inside this film, for me, is the torture scene that I find quite interesting in many ways : casting of roman soldiers, framing, space for this butchery, so one. It is and stands as an unique moment in cinema. It is many things : "torture-porn" as some one says here, flesh, blood, metal mixing together. So... my advice : look for it at any cost, even if u find the first scenes boring. This is a must see inside a kind of erratic story of a strange and phony guy that ones lived on earth... Everydody knows the rest.
Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961)
Very special, friendly and nice film
One thing to notice is how something so trivial as neighborhood becomes a natural and delicate narrative drive here. Because these two people are so close and care for each other, things become very nice, subtle, friendly and desirable... It's really strange when u read out that many people didn't believe in that project, or even didn't understand why such a music in a film about New-Yorkers.This two people are so iconic of New-York because it seems they both come from elsewhere and don't look like they belong to this city at all. In fact they don't behave as New-Yorkers should, nor do we believe Audrey plays a call-girl (never) : in fact they are NEW, like we discover them, like they discover themselves... and they live around a YORK. They are a discovery game and New-York is a splendid watcher and helper for their love project. This film is really a great life achievement !
Jimmy's Hall (2014)
Friends should stop this kind of project before they come alive
Just consider the start : a horse-car stops about 50 yards from the house it as to deliver luggage. Guess what... does the car approaches the house more after leaving the impatient passenger jumping out ? No it stays there and the driver takes the big luggage out and hardly makes its way to the 50 yards house. This is bad cinema from start to end... How can such a bad thing come to reality ?... Only because it's so meaningful to the guy that believes in his story, that he completely looses focus on others interest. This is an inside bleeding story that makes its creator become sterile... This has to be an accident. This is useless. This is a waist of time.
Funny Face (1957)
Starts funny and goes fast to great disappointment.
This is a dreadful mix of a few good things at the start... and lot of bad things, mostly unprofessional dancing and music... It's starts with a serious critical eye, kind of inside look on a girl magazine military like management... and forgets this interesting subject for a young girl that has to love pink and an old man (Fred Aster) who looks like a hobby photographer... and clearly, that's where the project looses its credibility... From time to time, u can admire some good cinema skills (the Paris arrival) but, then the thing goes mad.
It's unbelievable serious people put money in this project. But, as u think it was even selected at 1958 Cannes festival, u get that these irresponsible people were certainly important too, as important and respectful as a wealthy American film producer can be(at that time).
This is a bad, disloyal film that completely misses it's goal. I could not go without zapping this thing through all its second part and more. Too bad for Audrey Hepburn...
