Independence Day (1996)
All time favorite
As far as sci fi films go, outside of Star Wars/Star Trek - this was one of the best. A great cast took this to the next level. Not sure what happened in the follow up film- definitely don't mess with solid originals!
An Idiot Abroad (2010)
Irreverent and silly yet so much fun!
Ok it has its really dumb moments where you're not quite sure if it's scripted or not, but for the most part this is a laugh-out-loud show that ironically gave me a lot of travel ideas! Ricky Gervais is hilarious in this too! His giggles are hysterical. Do watch!
The Pianist (2002)
Tears will flow
Ok - so some might disagree and suggest Schindler's List is the best WW2 film but for me it was the Pianist - such a raw and painful representation of Nazi brutality and desperation of the people. This film isn't for everyone, but you know that going into it. You won't feel good afterwards, but that's a reminder you're human. Definitely worth a watch.
Daredevil (2015)
So so so good.
This is one of Marvel's best. I watched Luke Cage and Iron Fist- didn't quite hit the spot like this show did. The combat scenes and rawness of the violence are really cool and refreshing for a superhero series. Definitely recommended, can't wait for the next season!
Cidade de Deus (2002)
Raw and cult film
I agree with the other positive reviews here. I just saw this again after 15 years - still far exceeds anything made today when it comes to struggles of troubled youth in urban slums plagued by drugs and violence. So raw. So shocking to the system. Highly recommended!
The Office (2005)
So good, I miss it.
Ok so when Steve Carrell was in it, the series was great. Something changed in the latter seasons - I wasn't as excited to see them but still did. It's a funny comedy that anyone and everyone will like if you liked the British version - lots of uncomfortable office situations and if you've had a boss or colleague like Steve, you'll get the humour! I love watching these episodes on repeat.
Ozark (2017)
Jason Bateman - just wow.
This series will grip you from start to finish in EVERY episode. The situations he gets into are tense and uncomfortable, but you get this sense Jason will somehow get out of it. The cast are amazing - great acting all around. The hillbilly couple are by far my favourites and I like how their back stories are explored rather than being 2 dimensional baddies. Can't wait to see season 3, keep them coming!
