Engrossing thriller

Warning: Spoilers
The movie spins an absorbing web of suspense using the following characters in a hilly town Kalimpong which is gloomy, ominous, creepy and dark. A single mother Maya D'Souza (Kareena Kapoor) managing an eatery with two assistants. (She has a school going teenaged daughter.) Her abusive husband Ajit ( Saurabh Sachdeva) who lives separated, has been harassing her and now visits her after many years to extort money. Her neighbour Naren ( Jaideep Ahlawat) a school teacher, a reclusive maths wizard, super sensitive about his balding head, helpful but has suicidal tendencies. A young easy going cop Karan ( Vijay Verma) who has come from Mumbai to investigate the murder.

Director Sujoy Ghosh keeps the suspense alive and the audience will find the narrative interesting. Viewers may find the plot reminiscent of " Drishyam". ( It seems that the movie was planned some years back but was not made earlier due to this reason). There is a dead body to be disposed off, there are attempts to cover up, there are alibis to be checked out, there are loose ends, there is a shifting focus on suspects etc etc, it's all there. Some good acting from all artists who make the characters believable. Kareena's deglamourised avatar as oppressed wife, teacher Jaideep's silent brooding demeanour, husband Saurabh's sinister attitude and cop Vijay's persistent questioning all appear realistic.
